Garrigue

Garigue or phrygana is a type of low, soft-leaved scrubland ecoregion and plant community in the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. It is found on limestone soils in southern France and around the Mediterranean Basin, generally near the seacoast where the moderated Mediterranean climate provides annual summer drought.[1][2][3] The term has also found its way into haute cuisine, suggestive of the resinous flavours of a garigue shrubland. Claudio Mariotto ‘Braghé’ Freisa 2021

Freisa | Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

Mariotto's description of this wine 'Fresh and bringer of frestive cheer' is apt! A light, dry red that can be served just slightly chilled it makes for great summer drinking. The work done to offer us a fine dusting of long even tannins balanced to the fruit weight shows great touch. The fruit development along with the varietal characteristics yielding savoury, earthy notes with the little bit of rose and musk from Mariotto's tasting notes. A refreshing playful drink with plenty of intrigue.

Château Rieussec, 1er Cru 2015
Nectar of the Gods!

Château Rieussec, 1er Cru 2015

Semillon | Sauternes, Bordeaux

Rieussec along with Climens, de Fargues, Doisy-Daëne & of course d'Yquem is one of my favourite sweet whites from Bordeaux. The complexity and sophistication of the wine, particularly after is has had 10+ years in bottle is stunning. Beautiful to drink young, divine to drink with a little age on it. I had a half of 1996 early this year. Stunning!
