Referring to the sugar content in a finished wine. A dry wine by definition has no fermentable sugar left. The winemaking definition of dry is less than 2g/L of residual sugar. Known as Trocken in Germany or Sec in France. It should be noted that wines labelled with the German synonym trocken often still have a few grams of residual sugar left in them to balance the higher acidity of the wines.

Massolino “Vigna Rionda” Barolo 2017

Vigna Rionda is historically the most revered vineyard of Serralunga and the source of some of the greatest, finest and most long-lived Barolo. The Massolino family are the largest holders in this Cru with 3.5 hectares of Vigna Rionda vines, aged between 40 and 50 years old. This wine, along with Corzano e Paterno’s top of the line 100% Sangiovese ‘I Tre Borri’ were two of the first Chianti’s that that piqued my interest and demonstrated the potential of this beautiful variety. Fresh zippy acid, red cherry, excellent tannins with a little playful grip and spice. Delicious.  Grape first. The Highest Elevation Contrada owned by Passopisciaro making delicious Ethereal wines! Made from Nerello Mascelese, some call it the Barolo of the South, others a cross between Pinot & Nebbiolo.
