Italian for single vineyard. Each Contrada will have its own name. Plural = Contrade. Etna’s Contrade have certainly raised knowledge of the term. Each year a tasting, the Contrade dell’Etna, is held to taste the current releases from Etna. The term is used throughout Italy.

Contrade names you might have heard of from Etna: Rampante, Guardiola, Feudo di Mezzo, Acuria, Sciaronuova, Calderara, and Rivaggi. Moving north to Veneto, Gini’s top Soave is from the Contrada “Salverenza”.

Feeling Thirsty?

There's a great purity & vibrancy to Magnien's wines. His Faconnières is superb! Once again there is a plethora of floral elements present on the elegant nose of red currant, cherry and pretty spice wisps. The succulent, fleshy and punchy middleweight flavors a really lovely texture that carries over to the youthfully austere and delicately balanced finale. Excellent. Drink: 2032+Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 Points

Lovers of flavourful Chardonnay will be happy here! Amiot makes wines toward the more generous end of the spectrum. Tasting this reminded me of a chat I had with Franco d'Anna about the pendulum from riper to leaner styles. 'Chardonnay should have flavour'My note on the 2017:Lovers of flavourful Chardonnay will be happy here. Vergers should have a solid line of acid and this does. Full of riper stone fruit, melon, creamy lees action, a pinch of baking spice all finishing with a little pi

The lowest of Passopisciaro's contrada. Chiappemacine is typically fuller and richer by comparison Made from Nerello Mascelese, some call it the Barolo of the South, others a cross between Pinot & Nebbiolo. I prefer to say it is itself & delicious. The vineyards of Etna have undergone a major renaissance in the last couple of decades. Passipisciaro has been one of the wineries at the forefront. I was blown away the first time I tasted this wine. The Chippemacine and Sciaranuovo tend t
