Maison Louis Jadot OFFER – 2022

Beautiful 2022 Burgundy from Louis Jadot!
Louis Jadot is no ordinary Negociant! With close to 160 years of experience and owning more than 150 hectares of vineyards across Burgundy.

The wine is expected in October 2024

Just like 2022 was no ordinary vintage in Burgundy, Louis Jadot is no ordinary Negociant! With close to 160 years of experience and owning more than 150 hectares of vineyards across Burgundy (70 Ha of which lie in the Côte d’Or), Chef de Cave Frederic Barnier has extraordinary control over his fruit source from top to bottom.

The 2022 Vintage

Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have produced another strong portfolio chez Jadot, with a relatively abundant crop of charming, pure and demonstrative wines, with alcohol back in more normal territory after the highs of 2018, 2019 and 2020. As I’ve written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that’s too warm when it enters the winery. 2022 is also the second vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.

William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Vintage 2022 Winter was mild and dry, and whilst spring was again early and there were several nights of frost between April 3rd and 10th, only the most precocious sites were affected. High temperatures in May saw an early, even and abundant flowering at the end of the month. June continued hot but with considerable rainfalls towards the end of the month, which was critical to the success of the season. Veraison began during the first ten days of July,,but slowed due to the lack of rain. Summer saw four heat waves yet the vines coped remarkably well, and didn’t show any signs of stress as in 2020. The hot, dry conditions did slow growth and ripening and with a few thundery showers in the Côte in late August, and the harvest of very healthy grapes commenced on August 30th. Temperatures continued high during the harvest so great attention was paid to managing the temperature of the fruit and of the ferments. Yields were excellent for the reds and healthy for the whites, and while 2022 was one of the hottest and driest in Burgundy after 1947 and 2003, we believe our vineyards are adapting to climate change.

The wines: Starting harvest in August allowed us to retain the acidity in the whites; the bouquets are expressive with good aromatic and flavour complexity. The reds are deeply coloured with optimum levels of ripeness. The modest levels of acidity throws emphasis onto the silky nature of the tannins in 2022, with good fruit density and ageing potential.

The 2022 Vintage in General by Allen Meadows, Burghound

The best wines are modern classic Burgundies in the best sense of that term. They have something of everything in terms of a tantalising freshness as they are decidedly very Pinot in character followed by good, if not truly remarkable transparency on the palate. To obtain transparency, you usually have to sacrifice either richness or concentration and this is what is so special about the 22’s is that they have enough to each that it renders the mouthfeel to be particularly seductive while retaining the balance necessary such that a complete picture of a given terroir can be assessed and appreciated. With respect to agreeability 2022 really is one of those rare vintage where almost everyone can have their cake and eat it too, like them young, no problems, like them old no problems as well.

The 2022 Vintage in General by Jasper Morris MW – Inside Burgundy

“All other things being equal, I would recommend going large in 2022, large in the sense of a broad range because there are so many really good wines at all levels.”

Jasper Morris MW

Burgundy has shifted in through a cycle dominated by negociants who purchased barrels of wine and bottled them under their own name to growers bottling under their own name, often without using the vineyard names, then adding all of the Cru and Lieux Dits names.

In that time the negociants shifted to taking greater involvement in vineyards, and owning vineyards.

The best has invested heavily in their owned vineyards, working with vineyard owners to raise the quality of their fruit, and evolving slowly to find the balance between time tested winemaking techniques and innovation through science.

Louis Jadot has been able to carefully navigate the changes in Burgundy, and smoothly transition custodianship from Jacques Lardière, a veteran of 42 vintages at Jadot, to Fréderic Barnier who has lead Jadot since 2012.

About Maison Louis Jadot

Maison Louis Jadot was established in 1859 by Louis Henri Denis Jadot and developed by succeeding generations. In 1985 their US distributor Rudi Kopf purchased the business while also purchasing Domaine Clair Daü (which brought with it Grand Crus of Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Bonnes Mares, Clos Vougeot and Corton Grèves).

Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot has long belonged to the Jadot family and includes the original Louis Jadot Monopole Beaune Premier Cru ‘Clos des Ursules’ vineyard, purchased in 1826, plus Corton Pougets  and Corton Charlemagne. Pierre Henri-Gagey, current President succeeded his father André Gagey in 1992 and today his son Thibault is deeply involved in Louis Jadot. Domaine Gagey has been in their family for generations, and includes great vineyards in Clos Saint Denis and Echézeaux.

Domaine du Duc de Magenta is not strictly owned by Louis Jadot, but is on a very long term, exclusive contract for the Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot ‘Clos de la Chapelle’. In the 1990’s Louis Jadot invested in vineyards such as Côte de Nuits Villages Le Vaucrain and Beaujolais Chateau des Jacques Moulin-a-Vent and Morgon, and began working their own cooperage, Cadus, based in Ladoix.

Enjoy these fascinating podcast with Levi Dalton & Jacques Lardière who look after Jadot for 42 vintages and his successor Frederic Barnier. As Levi notes, you’ll definitely have to listen to the one with Jacques twice to even start to get your head around the discussion.

In the Vineyard

The Louis Jadot Domaine (comprised of 125 hectares over 28 communes, 298 parcels and 45 growers) is spread across three geographic centres, each working with its own team and its own tools, which minimises Louis Jadot’s carbon footprint across the broader Burgundian region.

About the Wines

THE WHITES

2022 Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

Louis Jean Baptiste Jadot bought back the vineyard in 1913 from two sisters and decided to name it « Les demoiselles ». This vineyard had already belonged to his grand-father who had bought it in 1845.

The subsoil is extremely chalky with a lot of stones, perfectly drained and easy to overheat with south-south-eastern exposition

93 Points

Prominent petrol nuances are present on the ripe and vaguely exotic aromas that include notes of just sliced citrus, Granny Smith apple, white flowers and subtle wood influence. The caressing, palate staining and sappy broadshouldered yet beautifully refined flavours brim with both dry extract and minerality on the powerful, serious and built-to-age finale where a touch of bitter zest adds a refreshing touch. While this should easily reward a decade plus of keeping, it’s not so backward that it couldn’t be approached after only 5 to 7 years of cellaring.

Allen Meadows, Burghound

94-96 Points

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Les Demoiselles is, as usual, one of the high points of the range, unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, white flowers, toasted bread, iodine and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's suave and charming, with a layered, vibrant core of fruit and a long, lively finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Maison Louis Jadot

Bâtard-Montrachet is located at the point where villages of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet converge. It borders the Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet vineyard and is right below the  Montrachet’s one.

It is exposed to the sun from the east, and sits on a terroir composed of chalky soil. It is also the largest of the five Grands Crus.

Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

91-94 Points

(from Puligny fruit). Moderate wood is present on the even more floral-scented nose of various white fleshed fruit aromas where background touches of citrus, wet stone and green apple add breadth. Like the Clos de la Garenne, there is very good mid-palate density to the larger-bodied and more powerful flavours that exude a bead of minerality on the muscular, youthfully austere and impressively long if slightly tannic finale. This is a big Bâtard that should amply repay extended keeping.

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

Aromas of ripe pear, peach, mint, hazelnuts and buttered toast introduce the 2022 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a full-bodied, rich and layered wine that's broad and satiny, with a seamless, giving profile and an expansive finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Domaine des Héritiers

This vineyard is one of the oldest owned by Louis Jadot since the XIXth century. It is located in the very heart of the appellation (next to the Corton Pougets) which then expanded after 1966. Originally, it was the only place to be allowed to bear the Corton-Charlemagne apellation.

This vineyard is ideally South oriented.

Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

93 Points

(from Les Pougets in Aloxe-Corton). A beautifully layered, cool and airy nose freely reveals its aromas of spice, acacia blossom, crushed fennel, wet stone and a plethora of citrus elements. The racy and almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavours possess fine delineation on the impressively powerful, focused, balanced and lingering finish where a hint of bitter lemon character adds a sense of lift. This should also amply repay extended keeping. Drink: 2032+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

94-95 Points

The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, which is continuing its élevage in foudre, unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, pear, hazelnuts, fresh mint and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, layered and chalky, with a rich core of fruit that's still youthfully tightly wound, it concludes with a long, resonant finish. It's one of the high points of the range this year.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret, Maison Louis Jadot

At an altitude varying from 250 to 350 m, it benefits from exposures ranging from East to South and Southwest. The «Cailleret» vineyards lies at the northern end of the commune, bordering « Les Champs Gains ».

91-93 Points

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret is layered and giving, bursting with aromas of citrus oil, hazelnuts, buttery pastry and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with succulent acids and a saline finish, this will show well young.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières Domaine Louis Jadot

The Folatières climate lies near the summit of this slope, above Clos de la Garenne roughly midway between Meursault and Montrachet.

The clay and chalk soil, which is very stony, drains well and warms through easily.
This wine is vinified and then aged in wooden barrels for 12-15 months before bottling.

90-93 Points

A whiff of exotic fruit is present on the quite spicy aromas of white peach, orange peel and equally broad-ranging floral scents. The medium weight flavours are rich to the point of being lush yet there is both good minerality and acidity supporting the sappy palate staining and notably dry finale. This is a wine that could also be enjoyed young if desired though it should easily repay up to a decade of keeping. Drink: 2030+ ♥ Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

Aromas of nuts, orange zest, white flowers and crisp orchard fruit introduce the 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy wine that's fine-boned, pure and elegant.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Domaine Louis Jadot

The vineyards are spread over gentle slopes, between 230 and 360 metres above the sea level. The eastern orientation is ideal, allowing maximum sunlight.

Chalky soils with white marl are best suited to the Chardonnay grape.

90-93 Points

Cool aromas of exotic tea, white flower and Granny Smith apple are trimmed in both wood and citrus nuances. The caressing but well-detailed middleweight flavours also flash evident minerality on the more refined, youthfully austere and well-balanced finale. This is one of those wines that is attractive enough already to enjoy young but should have no problem repaying up to a decade of keeping. Drink: 2030+ ♥ Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

Another high point in the portfolio is the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières (Domaine Louis Jadot), a beautiful wine that delivers aromas of minty pear, beeswax and buttery pastry, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave palate that's layered, concentrated and penetrating.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières Domaine Louis Jadot

The vineyards are spread over gentle slopes, between 230 and 360 metres above sea level. The eastern orientation is ideal, allowing maximum sunlight.

Chalky soils with white marl is best suited to the Chardonnay grape.

The Premier Cru Meursault « Perrières » appellation applies to white wines only.

91-93 Points

Smoky notes of mineral reduction add breadth to the cool and airy aromas of spiced green apple, citrus rind and floral wisps. The dense yet refined medium weight flavours possess a gorgeous texture that carries over to the markedly stony bitter lemon-zest-suffused finale that is bone-dry. There is already good depth to this youthfully austere effort and a decade of keeping should only render it more attractive. Worth considering. Drink: 2032+ ♥ Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières unites charm and tension, mingling aromas of pear and orange zest with nuances of white flowers, mint and vanilla pod in an inviting bouquet that's followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Domaine Louis Jadot

The brown soil is rather deep, made of different layers, above the mother rock.
Les Charmes is East oriented from the bottom of the slope to the mid-slope.

90-92 Points

This is aromatically similar to the straight Meursault if perhaps a bit spicier. On the palate though there is notably better size and weight to the solidly powerful and concentrated medium-bodied flavours that flash a subtle minerality on the very dry yet only mildly austere finale. Note that this is firm enough to suggest that most of a decade will be necessary to see this at its peak. Drink 2030+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

90-92 Points

Aromas of pear, peach, hazelnuts, white flowers and buttery pastry preface the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and charming wine with lively acids and a saline finish. It's the finest Charmes that Jadot has produced from the former Prieur-Brunet
holdings to date.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Meursault Maison Louis Jadot

The vineyards are spread over gentle slopes, between 230 and 360 metres above sea level. The eastern orientation is ideal, allowing maximum sunlight.

Chalky soils with white marl is best suited to the Chardonnay grape.
Meursault is exclusively made with Chardonnay grapes.

87-90 Points

(many different lieux-dits are included though the two largest are Narvaux and TilletsClassic Meursault nuances suffuse the nose of acacia blossom, hazelnut, discreet spice elements and a plethora of white fleshed fruit scents. The rich, generous and sappy flavours are also opulent while there is a sufficiently firm acid spine supporting the finish to maintain the balance. Like a number of wines in the range, a few years of keeping should help to add depth. Drink 2027+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

2022 Beaune 1er Cru Greves Les Clos Blanc Domaine Gagey

Les Grèves is situated in the North between Les Toussaints, Les Bressandes and Les Theurons. In French,Grèves means sandy, small stones, which describes the soil of these vineyards. It is the largest Beaune Premier Cru vineyard.

91-93 Points

The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc is one of the highlights of this year's range. Unfurling in the glass with notes of pear, confit citrus, toasted nuts and white flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave, its elegantly textural attack segueing into a taut, racy palate, concluding with a saline finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot St Aubin Maison Louis Jadot

The vineyards of Saint Aubin consist of two areas of approximately equal size situated roughly at right angles to each other. One area occupies chalky limestone soils and is exposed to the south and Southeast. In the other area, soils contain a degree of gravel and clay and enjoy a cooler, more easterly exposure.

89-91 points

(100% of the blend is composed of 1er Crus) Airy and distinctly cooler aromas include those of Granny Smith apples, just sliced lemon and a touch of wet stone character. The plump but attractively punchy middleweight flavours also flash evident minerality on the bone-dry though not overtly austere finale. This too could use better depth but in this case, the potential aging curve is sufficientlt long that more should almost certainly develop. Drink: 2029+ ♥ Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

2022 Louis Jadot Rully Maison Louis Jadot

Rully is the northernmost appellation, between Mercurey and Bouzeron. Chardonnay is the only grape variety used for the whites.

88 points,

(from La Gaudine) Slightly riper but agreeably fresh aromas include those of mostly white orchard fruit and acacia blossom. The rich and generously proportioned medium weight flavours possess slightly better acid support on the youthfully austere and bone-dry finale where the bitter zest component is more prominent. Drink 2026+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

THE REDS - CÔTE DE NUITS

2022 Louis Jadot Musigny Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The grand Cru of Musigny is oriented to the East. Its subsoil is composed with limestone and al great deal of stones, allowing the wine to be very supple.
The altitude of the village is 320 meters.

94-96 Points

(from 90+ year old vines in a 0.32 ha parcel). Moderate reduction flattens the fruit though a floral nuance can be discerned. Otherwise, the lilting, elegant and strikingly refined medium weight flavours also flash evident minerality on the hugely persistent, very firm and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is magnificent and while it too is very clearly built to reward long-term keeping, it should be more than worth the wait.

Allen Meadows, Burghound

95-97 Points

The 2022 Musigny Grand Cru is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with notes of damask roses, ripe red cherries, blood orange and exotic spices. Fullbodied, deep and layered, it's seamless and multidimensional, with an effortless sense of completeness and a long, resonant finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The Bonnes Mares vineyard lies at the edge of Chambolle Musigny and which one part spill into Morey Saint Denis.
The calcium content of the soil which gives the wines of Chambolle Musigny their great delicacy, is less pronounced, and compared to le Musigny, Bonnes Mares is more robust, yet still extremely elegant.

92-95 Points

(100% from the Chambolle side that combines about one-third terres rouges and the remainder from terres blanches). Generous wood and menthol elements are present on the cooler and more restrained nose of mostly red and dark cherry. The succulent and seductive flavours are also rich but not super-dense (though by no means dilute) where the lingering and solidly powerful finish tightens up considerably. This should amply reward extended keeping. Drink 2037+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

94-96 points

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, rose petals, smoke and dark chocolate, the 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is full-bodied, layered and seamless, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep and creamy core of fruit that's underpinned by lively acids and framed by sweet, melting tannins. This, too, is a real success.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses Domaine Louis Jadot

Les Amoureuses is situated just under Le Musigny and bordering the vineyards of Vougeot. Our vineyard has been replanted in 1986 after the 1985 severe frost.

93-95 Points

This is also ultra-floral in character with more spice and exotic tea nuances to the black pinot fruit coulis scents. The mouthfeel of noticeably more refined middleweight flavors is both succulent and velvety while exuding an almost aggressive minerality on the youthfully austere, compact and quite serious finish that deliver superb length. Like the Clos St. Denis, this is very classy juice. Drink: 2037+ ♥ Sweet spot Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

93-95 Points

There are two and a half barrels of the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses (Domaine Louis Jadot), the most perfumed wine in the cellar, bursting with notes of orange zest, peonies, exotic spices, cherries and raspberries. Medium to full-bodied, pure and suave, it's lively and mineral, with a rich core of fruit and a long, aromatic finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The Chambertin vineyard is situated on a chalky soil in the depth and clayey at the surface, which makes the wine both powerful and round.

93-96 Points

This is actually similar to the Chapelle though with even more spice influence along with a hint of the sauvage. There is impressive volume, richness and power to the concentrated broad-shouldered flavours that also conclude in a powerful, compact and decidedly serious finale that goes on and on. This does need to develop more depth though at this stage, that is not a concern. 2037+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

94-96 Point

The 2022 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with subtle hints of peony, mint, exotic spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a creamy core of fruit, lively acids and sweet, melting tannins, this sumptuous, enveloping wine is one of the high points of the range.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Chambertin Grand Cru Maison Louis Jadot

The origin of Chambertin comes from one of the owners whose name was Bertin and who had the idea to plant vineyards close to the climat used by monks. Chambertin comes from Champ de Bertin.
The Chambertin vineyard is situated on a chalky soil in the depth and clayey at the surface, which makes the wine both powerful and round.

93-96 Points

More subtle wood treatment surrounds the ripe yet cool aromas of red and dark wild currant, earth, plenty of sauvage and forest floor elements. The rich, dense and impressively powerful and imposingly scaled flavours display both ample minerality and a taut muscularity on the overtly austere and even more structured finale. This is an old school Chambertin and very much a ‘buy and forget you own it’ wine. 2040+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) is quite gourmand, bursting with aromas of smoky dark berries, cherries and spice box, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate that's rich and textural, framed by powdery structuring tannins.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The « Chappelle Chambertin » vineyard is situated on the east facing slope between Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru and Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru.

93-95 Points

(from En Gémeaux: these are the oldest vines in the Jadot portfolio of owned vineyards) Moderately generous wood and menthol influences can be found on the more floral-suffused aromas of violet, lilac and rose petal along with ripe red cherry liqueur and kirsch scents. There is outstanding density and underlying tension to the rich and enveloping larger-bodied flavours that exude a more subtle minerality on the compact, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is quite firm and at least 15 years of keeping will be necessary if you wish to see this beauty at full maturity. 2037+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

93-95 Points

Deep and seamless, the 2022 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet wild berries, orange zest, peonies and vine smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a pure core of fruit and sweet, powdery structuring tannins, this oldvine cuvée is once again a highlight chez Jadot.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Maison Louis Jadot

The «Clos de la Roche» vineyard is situated on the Morey Saint Denis commune (Northern part) and very closeto the border of the Grands Crus vineyards of Gevrey Chambertin. It is the biggest of the 4 Grands Crus (17 ha) and it is facing East.

2022 Louis Jadot Echezeaux Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The vineyards of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux, are entitled to use the Vosne-Romanée appellation.
The two Grands Crus Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux are situated on the slopes.
The Echezeaux soil is chalky, which is perfect to make a beautiful Grand Cru. The vineyard is facing east/south-east.

92-94 Points

(from Les Rouges du Bas that is worked by horse because it is so steep; occasionally other Echézeaux is added from purchases but in 2021 this is a Domaine wine). A much spicier nose of exotic tea, red currant and dark raspberry is trimmed in more evident though not invasive
wood. There is fine richness to the caressing, even seductive, and utterly delicious medium weight plus flavours that terminate in a dusty and moderately austere finale that could also use better depth. At least some patience will be necessary yet this appears to be a wine that could be reasonably approached after only 7 to 8 years. 2037+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

93-95 Points

Regularly one of the standouts of the domaine range, the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, smoke, spices and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a pure and expansive finish.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

Maison Louis Jadot is the second owner of the Clos Vougeot vineyard with a bit more than 2 hectares.

92-94 Points

Cool and attractively layered aromas include those of various red berries, spice and pungent earth nuances. The rich, punchy and delineated middleweight flavours are not particularly concentrated though they are solidly powerful on the dusty, firmly austere and very much built-to-age finale. Excellent quality here in a built-to-age package. 2037+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

The 2022 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is rich and structured, delivering aromas of cherries, plums, wild berries, smoke and spices, followed by a fullbodied, deep and layered palate that's framed by youthfully chewy tannins.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot

The « Clos Saint Jacques » vineyard is located at the beginning of the valley called Combe de lavaux. It is very nicely South-East oriented. There are only five owners of this prestigious Clos, which may have deserved the Grand Cru Appellation when the first official classification was decided.

92-95 Points

A very pretty, even lightly perfumed, nose freely reveals its combination of various red berries, spice, floral top notes and a subtle whiff of just turned earth. The succulent, delicious and round middleweight plus flavours flash the hallmark minerality on the impressively long and firm finish that evidence focused power. The ESJ and the LSJ are both excellent but there is just another dimension present here, not to mention a certain class. Drink: 2034+ ♥ Sweet spot Outstanding

Allen Meadows, Burghound

92-94 Points

Deep and complex, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis and plums mingled with orange zest, spices and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, its broad attack segues into a supple, seamless mid-palate that's underpinned by lively acids.

William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

2022 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot

The « Estournelles Saint Jacques » vineyard is situated on that Southeast facing slope, at the begining of the Combe Lavaux, on top of Lavaux St Jacques and near Clos St Jacques. There are similarities in the soil comosition between thoses premiers crus and the grands crus.

90-93 Points

A wonderfully elegant, high-toned and pure nose reflects notes of the essence of red currant, spice and pretty floral nuances along with just a suggestion of forest floor character. The super-sleek, refined and equally elegant, even lilting, flavors exude evident minerality on the dusty, moderately austere and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is lovely and pretty much textbook ESJ. Drink: 2032+ ♥ Outstanding

2022 Louis Jadot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées Domaine Louis Jadot

The Chambolle-Musigny vineyards is unique in the Côte de Nuits for the chalky composition of its soils just over a hard rocky bedrock which stresses the vines.
Les Fuées is situated just near the Bonnes Mares Grand Cru vineyard. There are a lot of hard stones. It has an East exposure.

91-93 Points

This is also quite cool and fresh as well as a bit more elegant on the mix of red and dark currant, exotic tea and violet scented nose. The sleek, intense and succulent medium weight flavours coat the palate on the lingering and balanced finale that is almost aggressively mineral-driven. This is also very lovely with fine development potential though I underscore that patience is advised here as well. Drink: 2034+

92-94 Points

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées (Domaine Louis Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of sweet red berries with notions of blood orange, spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, it's deep and layered, with a succulent core of fruit and attractive purity and tension.

2022 Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Maison Louis Jadot

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin wines are produced from vineyards lying on the extension of the slope on which the Grands and Premiers Crus are situated. These vineyards vary considerable in quality, and the name of the producer is thus more important here than elsewhere. Maison Louis Jadot vinifies the production of growers with whom it holds purchase agreements based on the quality of the harvest each year.

89-91 Points

A cool, airy and distinctly earthy nose is comprised mainly by an array of red berry scents. The rich, generously proportioned and palate coating middleweight flavors are a bit less austere if more rustic on the solidly complex and persistent finale. A quality Gevrey villages built for mid-term keeping. Drink: 2029+ ♥ Outstanding Top value

89-91 Points

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village (Maison Louis Jadot) has turned out very nicely, delivering aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest, spices and peony, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and seamless palate that's pure, flavorful and charming. As usual, this is mostly vinified in-house.

2022 Louis Jadot Côte de Nuits Villages Les Vaucrain Domaine Louis Jadot

The Louis Jadot vineyard of 3.5 hectares Le Vaucrain has been acquired in 1996. It is located in Comblanchien, next to the famous Nuits Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos de la Maréchale.

Harvest is done by hand, grapes are put in small cases in order not to damage the berries. Grapes are then sorted out by hand and destemmed. Maceration in open wooden vats or in stanless steel vats lasts 3 to 4 weeks. During fermentation pigeage is done twice per day. The wine ages 18 months in oak barrels from our cooperage; 1/3 of the barrels are new.

89-91 Points

The 2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages Le Vaucrain is as ever one of the smarter purchases in the range, delivering notes of cherries and plums mingled with petals and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and suave palate that's pure, lively and precise.

THE REDS - CÔTE DU BEAUNE

2022 Louis Jadot Corton Greves Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot

The Grand Cru is a powerful wine with a structure similar to Côte de Nuits wines. The vineyard orientation allows to elaborate a wine with silky tannins and harmonious acidity.
Les Grèves is a South east exposure vineyard based on a siliceous soil. This gives power and delicacy to the wine.

2022 Louis Jadot Corton Pougets Grand Cru Domaine des Heritiers

The Grand Cru vineyard of Les Pougets is directly adjacent to Le Charlemagne climat, on the upper and mid-slope. It is among the five vineyards of the commune in which the variegated soils, alternating between chalk and iron-rich marl, produce both Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne.

90-93 Points

Here the wood treatment is all but invisible with its cool, airy and exceptionally pretty blend of essence of red pinot fruit along with background hints of spice, rose petal and the sauvage. The elegant, refined and tension filled medium-bodied flavours also exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere and focused finale. This also needs to develop more depth but the Jadot Pougets has a long history of developing well in bottle and the 2022 version should be no exception. Drink: 2034+

2022 Louis Jadot Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Domaine Louis Jadot

« Les Rugiens » represents two parcels of vineyards : « Les Rugiens Hauts » and « Les Rugiens Bas ». The word « rugiens » originates from the word « rouge » (red) reminding of the colour of the soil including high levels of iron.

89-92 Points

Moderately generous wood fights somewhat with the otherwise pretty and high-toned aromas of essence of red cherry, spice and a floral top note. The delicious and beautifully textured, though again not especially concentrated, middleweight flavors brim with minerality that adds a sense of lift to the more refined, dusty and youthfully austere finale. This too could use better depth so at least some patience advised. Drink: 2032+

92-94 Points

After replanting with the estate's highest quality massal selections, the 2022 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens (Domaine Louis Jadot) marks the return to the lineup of this cuvée. For a third-leaf vineyard, the results are more than impressive. Bursting with aromas of plums, berries, spices and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with a suave, layered profile, succulent acids and a saline finish. This is very promising. 92-94 points

2022 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers

The Beaune 1er Cru «Clos des Ursules» is a walled in portion of the Beaune 1er Cru «Vignes Franches». It was purchased in 1826 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot and has remained a solely owned property of the Jadot family.

91-94 Points

(from Vignes Franches) Here a brooding and more restrained nose is spicier still with its blend of ripe red berries, soft earth and hint of oak. The rich, full-bodied andpowerfull medium-bodied flavours are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy mouthfeel while buffering the firm tannic spine shaping the balanced and impressively persistent finish. This is excellent and also well-worth considering. Drink: 2034+

92-94 Points

The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, cherries, spices and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, with sweet, powdery tannins and a long, spicy finish, this site, an enclave in Vignes Franches that's one of the house's emblematic wines, always performs well.

2022 Louis Jadot Savigny Lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Dominodes Domaine Louis Jadot

Savigny produces exclusively almost red wines (90%) under the village and premier cru appellations.

The vineyard shows an east and north-east exposure and is situated between 220 and 360m. The Dominode vineyard is very suitable to Pinot Noir because the soil is deep and benefits for a large variety of fallen rocks from the top of the hill.

The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats during 4 weeks helping the subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels during 18 months.

90-93 Points

A broadly spice nose of plum, dark cherry, violet and a hint of smoked meat. There is better volume and much better power to the bigger-bodied flavours that are less refined, all wrapped in an austere, very firm and built to age finale. As is usually the case, this is a ‘buy and forget you own it’ wine for at least a decade. Drink: 2029+

Allen Meadows, Burghound

90-92 Points

Notes of cherries, red berry compote, orange zest and peony preface the 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively wine with good depth at the core and a mouthwateringly saline finish.
