Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 2023

Chardonnay | Meursault, Burgundy

Here too there is a whiff of the exotic lurking in the background of the aromas of jasmine tea, white flower and passion fruit. The very generously proportioned flavors are rich to the point of opulence with a highly seductive mouthfeel before tightening up on the impressively long, balanced and complex finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages that is warmly recommended plus it should age gracefully. ♥ Outstanding Top valueAllen Meadows, Burghound 89-92 PointsNM 90-92Not

Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 2023

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

Sourced from a mosaic of exposures and elevations and incorporating old vines planted between 1969 and 1972, the 2023 Chablis Village offers aromas of pear, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and charming, it is underpinned by ripe yet racy acidity and concludes with a long, saline finish. Harvested earlier to preserve freshness, this is a well-executed village-level Chablis. Drink: 2026 – 2038Kristaps Karklins, The Wine Advocate 90 Points

There is a vague suggestion of the exotic on the aromas of white peach, dried apricot, acacia and solid Chablis typicity. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is also round, sappy and succulent with more evident minerality suffusing the lingering and refreshingly dry finale. Ripe aromas of poached pear and apple compote are laced with hints of iodine, lemon rind and a whiff of brine. Here too there is a whiff of the exotic that includes lychee and passion fruit on the layered nose laced with iodine, seaweed, floral and lemongrass wisps. The exceptionally rich, even opulent, medium-bodied flavors manage to be at once generous yet refined, all wrapped in a clean, dry and youthfully austere finale. This is an interesting wine as the mid-palate is quite open and lush while the finish is fairly tightly wound. Worth checking out as this should drink well both young and with up to

The 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is lovely, unfurling in the glass with notes of green orchard fruit, citrus zest, wet stones and oyster shell. Lamy has 2.4-hectares in the 1er Cru Les Frionnes, with vines planted in 1935, 1960 and 1985. It’s a southeast-facing site with old, decomposed limestone/clay soils and a plethora of small rocks in the topsoil. The vines are adjacent to the Derrière chez Edouard, but this is a slightly warmer site and is therefore picked earlier. Frionnes gives both pulpy fruit and vibrant, saline freshness along with a compact, rocky close.“Habitually one of the domaine's more mineral wines, the

Lamy’s tiny Clos du Meix parcel is just 0.7 hectares, situated at the western fringe of the village. Planted between 1985 and 1995, the sheltered location (just below Les Castets on a south-facing slope), its heavier clays, and the fact that it is fully enclosed by a wall (and therefore protected from the cold, northern winds), always gives this wine excellent texture to go with its intense minerality. Contributing to this mineral character is the bony soil in this vineyard, which has just

Sadie Family Swartland Palladius 2022

White Blend | Swartland, South Africa

“The 2022 starts by almost playing hide-and-seek; the wine is more reserved and holding back. And only after warming up and a couple of minutes in the glass does the conversation start. The aromas are that of green apple and citrus flint, and then some of the stone fruit aromas begin to shine through. The wine needs time. The palate is already balanced, and the acidity is met by very firm tannins. The aftertaste is lingering. This bottling is a great vintage to follow the 2021. It is a strong

Domaine Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang VDF 2022

Sauvignon Blanc | Pouilly-Fumé, Centre Loire

“The 2022 Pur Sang is done in a really sophisticated style. Despite its long élevage, it needs a little more time for its oak (demi-muids and cigar-shaped barrels) to integrate fully and for its sense of strictness to mellow. But this isn't a wine you'd crack open on release anyway. It is pure and clear, with fine texture and a tenderness to its core. The 2022 shows fine lines and length, with tangy green flavors like cornichons and dill meeting green orange on the finish.”Rebecca Gibb
