From racy, crisp, Riesling, to rich full-bodied Chardonnay the white wine world has an incredible array of wine styles on offer.

Head to the Rhône Valley, where you’ll, Viognier, Roussane and Marsanne with their amazing textures and spice. Cross the border to Italy and it’s Arneis, Verdicchio, Greco, Carricante, and, Garganega offering up often flavours very different to those of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Revel in the diversity of white wine styles created, as winemakers seek to balance sugar, acid, alcohol, phenolics, the use of oak, lees, and, skin contact to create wines of harmony and personality.

Perhaps in Riesling more than any other white wine will you find nearly every style imaginable.

The wine world is producing better wines than ever before. In regions where laws permit broad experimentation with growing and making white wines is resulting in rapid evolution and refinement of styles.

Australia’s push to evolve Chardonnay is the perfect example!

This single parcel, Inxertal, is inland and a site that recently had to be blended away as the 100 year old 0.15ha site yields only around 600kg of grapes. Thankfully this year they were able to bottle it again and we can see where the intensity of low yielding inland fruit meets that soulful expression from Alberto and Silvia. Rich yellow peach and flinty minerality on the nose, tightly wrapped by that 400L barrel. The particular site has a honeysuckle and floral aroma that is persistent year o

The 2022 & 2023 were MIND BOGGLING! Only 6 bottles up for grabs!NOTE ON THE 2023: The 2023 A Graña comes from a vineyard in the parish of Adina, and it has a different personality, not only because of its lower alcohol level (11.7%), contained ripeness and higher acidity but because it fermented and matured in a chestnut barrel (and 200 liters in stainless steel), kept with lees for nine months. The nose has a different profile, spicy and with notes of ... chestnut flowers?, with

Valentini Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2021

Trebbiano | Italy, Abruzzo

By all accounts the 2021 is once again a demonstration of why Ian d'Agata decrees the Valentini's Trebbiano hails from another planet. This is only the 10th release of Trebbiano in the 21st century, such is Valentini's dedication to quality!NOTE on the 2020: More savory than sweet, the 2020 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo slowly opens with a rich blend of raw almonds and smoky crushed stone, giving way to dried nectarines and hints of sage. This seductress is ripe and succulent upon entry, yet with

Vigneti Massa Timorasso ‘Derthona’ 2023

Timorasso | Italy, Colli Tortonesi

From near extinction the Massa family have saved Timorasso, for that I am truly thankful! Massa’s Derthona is the perfect introduction to the serious end of the spectrum of Timorasso.Excellent build in depth and length with excellent oxidative line that sits perfectly with fine acid and insane lemon oil.Closed and a little subdued on the nose on opening. A richer iteration that has been tamed by a master craftsmen to offer us a textural, phenolic, luscious and every so slightly oily

Note: from a .67 ha parcel of Chardonnay. A moderately phenolic nose (olive oil nuances) is comprised by notes of citrus confit and whiffs of the exotic in the form of white peach, lychee and passion fruit. There is outstanding volume and richness to the succulent but decidedly powerful larger-bodied flavors that brim with minerality on the lemon-tinged finale that is firm and very dry but not especially austere.Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 PointsThe 2023 Musigny Blanc Grand Cru ex

Here too there is a whiff of the exotic lurking in the background of the aromas of jasmine tea, white flower and passion fruit. The very generously proportioned flavors are rich to the point of opulence with a highly seductive mouthfeel before tightening up on the impressively long, balanced and complex finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages that is warmly recommended plus it should age gracefully. ♥ Outstanding Top valueAllen Meadows, Burghound 89-92 PointsNM 90-92Not

The Marienburg 2023 Auslese Fahrlay, as it is referred to on the central part of the label, is a fully-sweet wine with a beautifully refined and elegant nose of smoke, bergamot, jasmine, acacia, whipped almond cream, tangerine, and violet. The wine proves gorgeously smooth and elegant on the airy and pure palate. The finish is still slightly compact and dominated by residual sugar at this early stage, yet the complexity and purity are quite breathtaking. This splendid, creamy Auslese needs at le

Joh Jos Prüm Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2020

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

Broad, rich front palate. Juvenille, requiring a lot of coaxing to get it to come out to play. White stone fruit here. Increase in phenolic grip works well here. A little roller coaster of joy. With a silver line at the back palate. Playful, needs 5 years at least."The 2020er Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese still proves flinty, quite smoky, and reductive at first before it almost reluctantly reveals its super nose made of stone fruits, vineyard peach, Conference pear, anise, and h

Insane uber ripe lemon and florals.Another cracking example of long aging Austrian whites in barrel. 6 ½ years on lees in large old acacia yielding refinement and development with incredible energy.Ridiculous for the coin! The 2015 Grüner Veltliner Grosse Reserve spent 6.5 years on gross lees in a 2,000-liter acacia barrel.
