Ansitz Waldgries Südtiroler Weissburgunder Riserva ‘ITOS’ 2020

Weissburgunder | Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

What he achieves by a combo of half vinified in stainless steel and half the ferments in barrel, is the ideal melding of the racy with the complex and textured.A pretty flash Weissburgunder AKA Pinot Bianco! Excellent drinking. A layer of that shroomy, wet wool earthy funk I often see, and enjoy in high acid whites. White flowers perfume. Ripe white grapefruit. Counterpointed with a little stonefruit, fresh and zippy. Chalky acid with a dusting of phenolics adds cleansing grip. Superb long

“The 2023 Riesling Cuvée Ste. Catherine Schlossberg Grand Cru still has a flinty crackle of reduction that lays itself on fine pear and citrus notions. The palate is juicy, light, bright, stony and beautifully svelte with a lovely, zesty tension. Crystalline clarity defines the 2023. (Bone-dry)”Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous 96 Points SP 99

“It has a lifted nose with green apple, a touch of petrichor and just a small reduction. The palate is well balanced with lovely poise. Touches of noisettes and orange rind build through the harmonious and persistent finish. Excellent.”  Neal Martin, Vinous 90-92 Points JM 89-92

Beautiful to see how a couple of years relaxes the wine and helps it build generosity and resolve some fine acid. Funk a play with a creamy patisserie character. Sold drinking. Lanolin wet dog. Plush and caressing. Drinking beautifully now. Shape and flow. Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The piquant 2021 Soverribas has a very different nose, lifted and peculiar, with a mustard-like twist, maybe with a volatile hint. The 2020 Fogar Do Castriño feels more civilized, matured in a used chestnut barrel, and the notes from the wood feel subtler than in the 2019 when they had to use a new barrel. After the good experience with A Graña, they went for a chestnut barrel that they feel marks less than the oak and respects more the character of the Albariño grape. This feels balanced and vibrant, with pungent acidity and marked flavors, citrus freshness and great length. This is one of the wines that shows the ver

Fascinating! Savoury licorice root and lanolin. Incredible intensity. So beautifully weighted, flowing & rich yet transparent. Beautifully integrated acid. Musk roses. Entrancing wine. The 2022 was MIND BOGGLING! Only 6 bottles up for grabs! The 2023 A Graña comes from a vineyard in the parish of Adina, and it has a different personality, not only because of its lower alcohol level (11.7%), contained ripeness and higher acidity but because it fermented and matured in a chestnut barrel (and 200 liters in stainless steel), kept with lees for nine months. The nose has a different profile, spicy and with notes of ... chestnut flowers?, with a slightly wild/rustic edge t

Brooding and showing depth and length, just needing a year to settle. Savoury element. Opening up to show lovely depth florals, chalky, acid fine and long. A delicious Albariño with a lick of funk. Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025I tasted a super bottle of the 2023 Alberto Nanclares, which this year is quite gentle, with lower alcohol, 12.2%, and lower acidity but a slightly higher pH to achieve the balance, which to me is more fragile and ethereal. Sitting between the Vaillons and Mont de Milieu in terms of richness and minerality Delicacy, laced and fine, perfumed, elegant and long, a little primary would be interesting to see what a little time in old wood would do for this. The salinity is back in force. Tighter it will need bottle age to show it’s best. The phenolics / acid complex will take time. Everything is there waiting to come together and give a little patience you will be in a very happy place.

The richest of the 1ers! Richer and more out to play there’s plenty of fruit drive here. Honeyed, a little nutty with maple at play, crème patissere. Generosity from this warmer site is tempered by a line of acid. That long ferment mid-palate with a little baking spice, pop of cracked yeast. Long.

Straight out of the gate these two top Timorassos from Claudio are again very, very good. Finer and more linear than the Calvallina, with those lemon citrus oils that delight. Lovely, refreshing.
