Ansitz Waldgries Südtiroler Weissburgunder Riserva ‘ITOS’ 2020

Weissburgunder | Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

What he achieves by a combo of half vinified in stainless steel and half the ferments in barrel, is the ideal melding of the racy with the complex and textured.A pretty flash Weissburgunder AKA Pinot Bianco! Excellent drinking. A layer of that shroomy, wet wool earthy funk I often see, and enjoy in high acid whites. White flowers perfume. Ripe white grapefruit. Counterpointed with a little stonefruit, fresh and zippy. Chalky acid with a dusting of phenolics adds cleansing grip. Superb long

8 lieu dits. Mostly village. One very high and one just below Bâtard. This is lovely, fine, and flowing, so caressing. Delicacy plush. Lovely restraint, phenolics playing a seamless role adding intrigue on the palate. Depth here is solid. Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 2023

Chardonnay | Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy

“It has a lifted nose with green apple, a touch of petrichor and just a small reduction. The palate is well balanced with lovely poise. Touches of noisettes and orange rind build through the harmonious and persistent finish. Excellent.”  Neal Martin, Vinous 90-92 Points JM 89-92

Beautiful to see how a couple of years relaxes the wine and helps it build generosity and resolve some fine acid. Funk a play with a creamy patisserie character. Sold drinking. Lanolin wet dog. Plush and caressing. Drinking beautifully now. Shape and flow. Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The piquant 2021 Soverribas has a very different nose, lifted and peculiar, with a mustard-like twist, maybe with a volatile hint. In 2021, they used the same Manzaniña vineyard and, if needed (to com

The 2020 Fogar Do Castriño feels more civilized, matured in a used chestnut barrel, and the notes from the wood feel subtler than in the 2019 when they had to use a new barrel. After the good experience with A Graña, they went for a chestnut barrel that they feel marks less than the oak and respects more the character of the Albariño grape. This feels balanced and vibrant, with pungent acidity and marked flavors, citrus freshness and great length. This is one of the wines that shows the ver

Fascinating! Savoury licorice root and lanolin. Incredible intensity. So beautifully weighted, flowing & rich yet transparent. Beautifully integrated acid. Musk roses. Entrancing wine. Such presence yet delicacy. Very very good, such complexity and energy in the fruit.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The 2021 Fogar Do Castriño is a characterful and unusual Albariño that matured in a used chestnut barrel for 24 months and a further 15 months in bottle. The 2022 was MIND BOGGLING! Only 6 bottles up for grabs! The 2023 A Graña comes from a vineyard in the parish of Adina, and it has a different personality, not only because of its lower alcohol level (11.7%), contained ripeness and higher acidity but because it fermented and matured in a chestnut barrel (and 200 liters in stainless steel), kept with lees for nine months. The nose has a different profile, spicy and with notes of ... chestnut flowers?, with a slightly wild/rustic edge t

Brooding and showing depth and length, just needing a year to settle. Savoury element. Opening up to show lovely depth florals, chalky, acid fine and long. A delicious Albariño with a lick of funk. Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025I tasted a super bottle of the 2023 Alberto Nanclares, which this year is quite gentle, with lower alcohol, 12.2%, and lower acidity but a slightly higher pH to achieve the balance, which to me is more fragile and ethereal. “The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has more vigor on the nose compared to the Les Referts, more mineral-driven with yellow flowers and a touch of lemon verbena. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a lovely caressing texture and hints of chamomile infusing the orchard fruit toward the finish. The acidity keeps this tight and focused—a beautifully sculpted Puligny.” Neal Martin, Vinous 93-95 Points JM 93-96

Paul Pilot Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2022

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

This comes mainly from a well-situated 0.6-hectare parcel of 35-year-old vines planted on a northeast-facing hillside just south of Chassagne. There is also a little Chassagne village fruit in the blend. The fruit is hand-picked, pressed and left to settle. It naturally ferments on lees for 12 months in small stainless-steel vats and older barrels. The wine is then blended and settled for a further six months in tank before bottling. This has always been a lovely drink, but today, the age of vin

Clemens Busch Riesling Vom Blauen Schiefer 2023

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

The 2023er Riesling vom grauen Schiefer, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, comes from blue-slate sectors in the Pündericher Marienburg. It displays a superbly complex and finely aromatic nose of lime, minty herbs, anise, tangerine, candied grapefruit, greengage, lime tree, and apple. The wine starts off on a slightly round side with fruity and light creamy elements dominating at first, before more grip and intensity comes through. The finish is nicely focused, spicy, and l

Here too there is enough wood influence suffusing the aromas of mineral reduction, pretty floral wisps, spice and iodine to merit mentioning. I very much like the sophisticated texture of the acceptably concentrated middleweight flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the firm, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. Unlike the Fourchaume which could be reasonably approached young, this more compact effort will need at least a few years of keeping first.Burghound ♥ Sweet Spo

Very, very good.On the 2021: The 2021 Riesling Kirchensteig was harvested in a sub-parcel of the Sprinzenberg on very poor granulite soils and pressed in a basket press. “An aromatic that’s reserved, still with a width of slightly golden fruit but vibrant too. Mouth-filling, mouth- watering, flavour that melts over the palate – rounder than the incisive directness of the last wine. Slowly, deliciously, fading flavour. That brooding depth, waiting to explode. Such incredible sophistication as usual depth and length is insane the marriage of super fine acidity with phenolics and chalkiness.
