Larger Bottles 1-15L

Sometimes a single bottle just doesn’t befit the occasion!

When you need to celebrate in style a magnum is the minimum.

Wisdom suggests the larger the bottle the slower the wine inside will age.

There’s another interesting factor when it comes to bottle fermented sparkling like Champagne. The fermentation ‘kinetics’ the way the wine ferments in magnum just seems to give the Champagne magnums the edge in quality over single bottles.

Maybe it’s just the party environment!

Here’s a list of different wine bottle sizes.

1.5L Magnum = 2 x 750 ml bottles.

3.0L Double Magnum – Jeroboam = 2 x Magnums or 4 x 750ml bottles.

4.5L Jeroboam (aka Rehoboam) = 6 x 750 ml bottles. (Jeroboam is either 3 or 4.5 L depending on what part of France you’re in)

6.0L Imperial (aka Methuselah) = 8 x 750 ml bottles or 2 x Double Magnums.

9.0L Salmanazar = 12 x 750 ml bottles or a full case of wine!

12.0L Balthazar = 16 x 750 ml bottles or two Imperials.

15.0L Nebuchadnezzar = 20 x 750 ml bottles or the name of the ship in the Matrix.

18.0 L Solomon (aka Melchoir) = 24 x 750 ml bottles.

Lustrous ruby. Concentrated fruit with minerally notes and grows increasingly complex in the glass. Full yet elegant on the palate with finely chiselled tannins. Breathtaking balance. Simply gorgeous, but far from ready. Montalcino nobility.Walter Speller, Jancis Robinson 18+ PointsKO 100 DC 100 EG 96 ML 94

Side by Side the play & fight flight siblings .. Keller's G-Max & Bürklin-Wolf's Kirchenstück!The Bürklin-Wolf 2021 Kirchenstück G.C. is clear, pure, fresh and saline on the complex and elegant nose. Full-bodied, rich and powerful on the platte, this is a dense, rich, savory and elegant Riesling with enormous grip and tension and a persistent saline finish. This is a great and promising Kirchjrnstzück. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 202
Domaine Faiveley Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru MAGNUM 2022
Divine Wine!
Latricières Chambertin is an incredible site! I had Faiveley's 2015 Latricières Chambertin recently, delicious, perfumed elegant and refined. Along with the 2015, I devoured a brace of 2016's from across the appellations. They are really stepping up their game, the investments in the vineyard and winery are a testament to this. There is enough wood influence to merit pointing out on the airy, cool and layered nose of both red and dark currant, the sauvage and plenty of forest floor char

Domaine Faiveley ‘Mazis Chambertin’ Grand Cru MAGNUM 2022

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

Mazi is alway a favourite. Hugely long yet impeccably well-balanced! Toasty reduction knocks down the nose but there is fine freshness and richness to the suave and seductively textured bigger-bodied flavors that are generously proportioned while displaying both good tension and complexity on the impressively persistent and more powerful, if less refined, finish where a hint of wood appears. This isn’t quite as mineral-driven but save for a subtle touch of warmth, it’s beautifully balanced a
The 2017 Barolo Piè Franco is back to being a wine of pure and total sensuality. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry, mint chalk and white pepper are some of the many notes that grace this ethereal, elusive Barolo. The 2017 is the sort of wine you want to spend an entire afternoon immersed in. Hints of rosewater, kirsch, mint and dried autumn leaves linger.Antonio Galloni - NR as per request from Cappellano
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, once again the nose is overtly floral in character with its exuberantly spicy nose of various dark berries, soy, exotic tea and sandalwood. The sleek, intense and delineated flavors are at once refined yet powerful with a taut muscularity becoming more apparent on the dusty, youthfully austere and stony finish that is compact and very serious. Patience. (from a .97 ha holding; 80% whole clusters). Drink: 2034+ ♥ Don’t miss! OutstandingAllen

Vietti Barolo ‘Ravera’ JEROBOAM 3L 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Pretty, red fruit. Beautifully developed. Impeccable élévage. An underlying tar/leather/slate notes layering in intriguing complexity. The Vietti crew have built quite a lot of structure into this Ravera of Novello. A wonderful example of Ravera making for a very complex iteration. Lovely generosity. Fine plush Neb tannin. Divine roses. Impressive!  Bud-break & harvest is around 2-3 weeks later than most of the other Communes for Vietti.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The 202

While Vietti's Villero is their Top Wine. This is my favorite! The 2021 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is elegant, floral and lifted. I also find it a bit reticent in the early going. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, white pepper and spice open with some coaxing. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon, the wine's considerable sensuality notwithstanding.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96+ PointsThis is a serious beauty that reminds us of the brilliant work und

Much more impact at the front end of the palate with a pleasing build in grip compared to the plush Brunate. Linear, long and fine. Lovely flowers. Long, even fruit of significant depth, with a lick of leather throwing in tar/slate/licorice complexity. Opening the class to reveal more opulence. Acid tannin complex is exceptional. Superb structure. The perfume is insane. Wow, as this builds in the glass, it builds in class, just opening beautifully. A lot of power.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sep

Cracking Brunate! A very complete wine. Tannins are so refined, even through the front and middle palate. Round chocolateyt mid-palate that tapers a little. Incredibly elegant,  again a poised acid-tannin complex with ripe, layered, silky tannin. Actually builds post swallow. Perfectly ripe and balanced. Incredible length. The core of fruit is insane. Oppulent & exceptional.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025Brunate is also one of my favorite wines from Vietti (and, boy, is it har

Vietti Barbaresco 'Masseria Roncaglie' McKENZIE 5L 2019
1 of 15 for the 🌏
The 2019 Barbaresco Masseria Roncaglie is the best Barbaresco I have ever tasted from Vietti. Bright, full of energy, the 2019 is stunning from the very first taste, and it was poured after all the Barolos in the range. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, mint and orange peel all grace this exquisite, mind-blowing Barbaresco. The 2019 is pure and total finesse. I am not sure how much longer that will last. The 2019 is outrageously beautiful. Don't miss it!Antoni Galloni, Vinous

Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole MAGNUM 2019

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, France

“70% new wood. Purple black, with a light reduction on the nose, but a massive heart to it. Waves of fruit, red and black fighting it out, incredible intensity through the middle, a very good little touch of acidity at the back. Clos de Tart is never going to be a sensual wine though there is plenty of flesh on the bones. Perfectly judged ripeness here. Probably a bit more than 50% whole bunch has been used overall, but the decision is made for each individual cuvee. I retasted the 2019 having
Vietti Barolo 'Brunate' REHOBOAM 5L 2017
1 of 15 for the World!
Just enough for an intimate dinner! The 2017 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol and dried herbs all build in a potent Barolo that is enshrouded by tannins. The 2017 is going to need quite a bit of time in the cellar. Today, it is very much a brooding powerhouse. Dark wild cherry, licorice, tar, menthol and spice take shape in the glass, but the 2017 is clearly an infant, and an unruly one at that.
