Vietti Barolo ‘Cerequio’ MAGNUM 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Much more impact at the front end of the palate with a pleasing build in grip compared to the plush Brunate. Linear, long and fine. Lovely flowers. Long, even fruit of significant depth, with a lick of leather throwing in tar/slate/licorice complexity. Opening the class to reveal more opulence. Acid tannin complex is exceptional. Superb structure. The perfume is insane. Wow, as this builds in the glass, it builds in class, just opening beautifully. A lot of power.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sep

Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ MAGNUM 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Cracking Brunate! A very complete wine. Tannins are so refined, even through the front and middle palate. Round chocolateyt mid-palate that tapers a little. Incredibly elegant,  again a poised acid-tannin complex with ripe, layered, silky tannin. Actually builds post swallow. Perfectly ripe and balanced. Incredible length. The core of fruit is insane. Oppulent & exceptional.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025Brunate is also one of my favorite wines from Vietti (and, boy, is it har

This is the baby in the bunch, representing one of the newest additions to the Vietti portfolio, with the first vintage produced in 2018. The learning curve in Monvigliero is always steep, or so most winemakers tell me, because very few can go to 100% whole-cluster fermentation. Indeed, the 2021 Barolo Monvigliero sees 60% whole clusters. The Vietti team is experienced, and this wine is pristine. This vintage was harvested on September 30th, and maceration was a bit shorter, at 20 days. The wine

A very ripe yet agreeably fresh nose reflects notes of blue berry, plum liqueur and violet that are cut with spice and earth hints. The exceptionally rich and impressively full-bodied flavors evidence a taut muscularity, all wrapped in an overtly powerful and lingering finish that is naturally sweet. As one would reasonably expect this is quite firm but the 2017 version appears to be a bit less structured than it usually is. 2029+. Burghound

Giacomo Conterno Barolo ‘Arione’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Roberto acquired a portion of the Arione Cru in 2015. Just under 6 Ha for 6 million euro. It is adjacent to the Francia vineyard, long responsible for both the Barolo ‘Cascina Francia’ and ‘Monfortino’ Riserva in the very southern end of Serralunga. The contours of Arione follow on directly from Francia and the soil profiles are similar with a limestone base compared to Cerretta’s clay base. The 2016 Barolo Arione is a sort of synthesis between the Cerretta and Francia. It has the red

Giacomo Conterno Barolo ‘Francia’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Conterno’s 2016 Barolo Francia is effusive, with a real sense of expansiveness that gives the wine breadth. Sage, mint, cedar, tobacco and strong mineral accents complement a core of dark fruit in a Barolo of real gravitas. Just bottled a few months ago, the 2016 is going through a very rare period of approachability (in relative terms). It will almost certainly shut down within the next few months. Readers who are curious will want to taste it before that happens. In 2016, Roberto Conterno di

Massolino “Vigna Rionda” Barolo MAGNUM 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

An explosion of flowers and fruit leaps from the glass. The extra 2 years in bottle prior to release clearly show their impact. Through puberty. Incredible. It will need time to resolve and for the tight 2019 tannins of presence yet ripeness with a degree of firmness to resolve, which they will and when they do we're in for a treat. A transparency here. Aroma and flavours building with a layer of secondary characters, a lick of truffles and forest floor. A superb core of dark rich long

"This too is aromatically very cool with its elegant and airy aromas of violet, red and dark currant and whiffs of humus and the sauvage. There is impressive vibrancy to the caressing yet muscular and intense larger-scaled flavors that exude an abundance of minerality on the serious, compact and focused finale that also flashes just a hint of warmth. Note well that this is very much a 'buy and forget you own it' wine."Allen Meadows, Burghound
A very fresh and, as one might expect, this possesses the spiciest nose to this point with its wonderfully floral red berry fruit aromas. The borderline painfully intense flavors possess a super-sleek and chiseled mouthfeel that is akin to rolling small rocks around the mouth on the dusty, moderately austere, compact and built-to-age finale. I would strongly recommend not touching a bottle of this beauty before at least 10 years have passed. 2034+ ♥ Sweet spot OutstandingAllen Meadows, Bur

There are some perks to the job! Got to try the newest edition to Sandrone's list of Barolo, the Riserva 'Vite Talin'. 30 years in the making and it's quite some wine! Such a special wine. Unforuntately, there was not an opportunity to try the 2015. It's a Barolo vintage I am fond of. Reviews are below. My notes of the 2013: Intoxicating nose. Such a complete perfume, the incredible core of fruit is wrapped in truffles, earth & forest floor. The richness, depth, and, length a matched

Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Grand Cru Clos de la Roche 2020

A perfumed and exceptionally pretty nose combines notes of dark raspberry, exotic tea and a broad range of floral elements. The succulent, refined and admirably punchy medium weight plus flavors possess excellent delineation and a taut muscularity that becomes more prominent on the saline and bitter pit fruit-suffused finale. This well-balanced and very promising effort that delivers first-rate length. 2032+ (from a .32 ha parcel)Allen Meadows, Burghound

“The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella is a sleeping giant, darkly alluring with dried violets, dusty black currants, shaved cedar and lifting hints of mint. This is sleek and cool-toned in feel—lifted yet intense and savoury to the core, with masses of mineral-tinged dark red fruits and balsamic tones carried across a core of zesty acidity… This is just a baby today and in need of serious cellaring, yet the potential is off the charts.
