Thrilled to be able to offer my thoughts on this special wine. Lunch with the full current release set from La Rioja Alta was thrilling. The wines are a demonstration of respect for the past and judicious use of modern technology combined with an approach that offer a style reminiscent of a refreshed classic. No fads here! The Ardanza is a ridiculous value. Coming on 10 years old. This is very good. The harmony and grape first tannin with layering of very subtle oak that wraps rather than in

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique.Galloni

About Domaine Marc-Antonin Blain Marc-Antonin Blain, son of Jean-Marc and Claudine, grew up among the vineyards of Chassagne, but it was the vintages he spent abroad in Australia and New Zealand that inspired his passion for winemaking. Back in France, under the guidance of his grandfather Jacques Gagnard – an atypical figure in the world […]

Luigi Baudana Barolo ‘Baudana’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Nebbiolo, Barolo, Serralunga, Baudana = Enough Said! The 2019 Barolo Baudana is absolutely captivating. Effusive and bright in the glass, with tons of freshness and remarkable fruit purity, the Baudana offers up generous dark red fruit, spice, leather, kirsch, hard candy, cedar, tobacco and underbrush. There's terrific depth here and exceptional balance, too. Rose petal, white pepper and chalk lift the high-toned, intensely saline finish.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 Points 94 ML

Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis 2017

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy

I first tried Hubert Lignier's wines back in the 1990's & have never looked back! Lignier is one of the latest to release their wines. The extra year really makes a difference as the wines resolve and come together. The Morey-Saint-Denis has the hallmark red fruit of the village. The depth and length are exceptional, what really makes this wine are the wonderfully refined texture, purity and vitality. Domaine Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin ‘La Justice’ 2017

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

This is what Pinot is like when everything comes together! Here too the nose of both red and dark cherry, earth and humus is on the toasty side. The sleek, refined and vibrant lighter weight flavors exhibit fine detail on the lingering and much better balanced finish. This is a bit light but it is undeniably pretty.Burghound

Fontodi Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2018

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Chianti Classico

The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is quite possibly the most elegant, refined version of this wine I have ever tasted. It does not offer the immediacy or impact of either the 2015 or 2016, but, instead, impresses with its elegance, persistence and total class. Bright floral and spice notes add perfume to a core of red-toned fruit. The 2018 represents another move towards greater finesse at Fontodi. It spent a year in French oak barrel and a second year in cask.Antonio

Domaine Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin ‘La Justice’ 2018

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

This is what Pinot is like when everything comes together! The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice (négoce) bursts with aromas of plums, berries, peonies and undergrowth. Medium to full-bodied, supple and textural, it's broad and sumptuous, framed by fine-grained tannins. Lignier told me that the vines in this parcel really suffered in the drought, and even though it came in at a classical 13.1% alcohol, it's comparatively high in pH.William Kelley, Parker's Wine Advocate

“The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards has turned out especially well. Opening in the glass with aromas of red berries and plums mingled with sweet soil tones, hints of raw cocoa and rose petals, it's  medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with terrific concentration and beautifully refined tannins. Boillot observes, and I agree, that this site's tannins have become much more refined over the last five years.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 93 Points JM 91-93
