I thought Bouland, Thivin & Foillard were good! Superb Morgon. Jean-Marc’s Cote du Py is a cracker. So what do you get for coin when you head to the ‘James’? The answer … extra layers. Extra layers of flavour, layers of tannin. Yes, it’s bolder than the 2019 Cote du Py, yet it retains an elegance of fruit. The extra year has seen it relax a little, still tight though. It will reward you with time. 3 years will make an incredible difference. 5 more, although it’s hard not to resist ta

Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Myglands Monopole 2021
Hard to beat for the $
Give it a couple of days open or a few years in bottle and you'll go to a happy place. Reviews yet to come. Kelley's note below is of the 2020. Along with the Le Clos du Roy this represents one of the best value Burgundies on the market. As I wrote earlier this year, Faiveley's 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands is a success, delivering aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, espresso roast and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a

From Ravera in Monforte. As the vines age they will make Barolo! From Ravera in Monforte, this is made from the youngest vines (that will eventually be made as Barolo) and is made the same way as her three Barolos and then aged in barriques for twelve months. As a baby Barolo, this has some serious pedigree with rich, plush fruit of red berries with crushed flowers. Hard to beat for the money and an ‘affordable’ cellaring option.**Due Sept 2025**

Vajra Barolo 'Albe' 2021
🇮🇹A Vajra Classic 🍷

Vajra Barolo ‘Albe’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo (sub-region)

Excellent, Perfume, energy, lovely core of fruit, long & fine, dark & savoury with red fruit too. Layered with an excellent tannin profile, flow and shape. Delicious. Will undoubtedly build with age. Acid tannin complex is very good. Length of tannins is excellent. Firm in a good way and of quality, a little nutty. Exceptional value to be had here!Paul Kaan, Wine DecodedDo you have a favourite pair of jeans or a favourite dress that you keep in your closet for all occasions?

At a splash over $100 this is one of the best value Barolo on the market. Delicious, expressive Barolo with fine acid and gentle yet present tannins. Plush, rewarding. Umami with a long, mouthfilling core of red fruit. Savoury and nicely developed with excellent élévage, just a little lift that sits well against the generous fruit. An excellent introduction to the Barale Barolos. Hoovered a bottle with a roast chook and went to a very happy place. The fruit for this wine comes from Castelle

Here the expressive nose is spicier and a bit more floral as well with its baked plum, black cherry and soft earth scents. I very much like the texture of the medium-bodied flavors that are more precise if not quite as rich or powerful, all wrapped in a mildly sweet finish where a touch of warmth slowly emerges. While qualitatively similar, the texture of this and the Les Duresses are like night and day.Allen Meadows, Burghound 89-92 Points

Daniel Bouland Morgon Délys MAGNUM 2021

Gamay Noir | Morgon, Beaujolais

Super refined and long with the finish offering all kinds of florals and exotic spice! "Bouland's bottling from younger vines, the 2021 Morgon Delys delivers notes of plums, wild berries, spices and forest floor, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's still a little compact after its very recent bottling. It shows plenty of potential, however."William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92 Points

Cappellano Barbera 2021

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2021 Barbera d'Alba is a new wine from Cappellano. Sourced from a close friends vineyard in the Roero it has a very different flavour and tannin profile to the Barbera Gabutti which needed replanting after years of decline.Like all good Barbera and Cappellano wines, the 2021 Barbera shows excellent development and refinement. Given this is the first release it'll be fascinating to see how Augusto evolves this wine in future vintages. I suspect the soils here will be sandier as is more ty

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

Once again proving PdB's Barbaresco is a great benchmark!I had the chance to taste the 2021 in Nov 2024. Without question it is the best vintage since 2016.It's looking sharp straight out of the gate & will clearly offer much more with time. Fresh & energetic, light on it's feet yet of great depth & length. Elegant, & fine with excellent front mid-palate shape. The tannins are of serious quality with a playful grip offering a slatey graphite feel. Complex dark & brood

Poise and shape. Perret’s Saint-Joseph has a drinkability about it that is so often lacking in the new world. Florals, on red and blue fruits with a bit of spice sit delicately on framework of tannins with a nice bit of mid-palate grip. Weightless yet full of flavour. A graceful Syrah. It’s fun now, there is no doubt that time will be kind helping it relax and show more perceived generosity.

Deceptive in it’s depth and length. There is a trick exceptional wines manage, they appear weightless yet have incredible depth and layer after layer of intrigue. This is such a wine. Funny, Thierry’s wines remind me in so many ways of Yarra Yering. When I made wine there we were focused on two things, texture and complexity, building in layer after layer of intrigue. As with Thierry’s fruit we had incredible acidity. We aimed to make wines that you’d drink half a bottle, think, shit tha

Bera Barbaresco ‘Serraboella’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

Excellent drinking at this price point. Complete with well developed strawberries and cream with savoury, generous fruit. Playful and fun, solid depth and length. This is a big step up from the standard Barbaresco. The sophistication of mouthfeel, layering of tannins and flavours marking the difference. Serraboella turns out wines of interest from a number of producers including Barale, looking forward to seeing their 2019 too! This one is well worth a look.
