Ar.Pe.Pe Valtellina Superiore Inferno Fiamme Antiche 2017
Neb from the North!
Crystal clear with a more savoury flavour profile. As it opens in the glass it comes together beautifully! This too is very good. Crystal clear with a more savoury flavour profile. Took a bit longer for this to open up.  As it did it came together beautifully, the tannins have a little more presence here. The flowers are at play around the edges. The rounder mid-palate differentiates Sassella from Inferno. It’s a little about celebrating the differences once again. As always ArPePe offer up e

Grumello is to the east of Sondrio on the opposite side to Sassella making for a fascinating comparison in site! Of the three Superiores this looks the darkest, the tannins sit more aggressively, yet, not overly so. With a plate of food you'd not notice. A little shorter than the other Superiores. The acid appears higher. Another complex offering from Ar.Pe.Pe. A little disjointed at the moment. It is the wine I am least certain of in term of it's evolution as it ages.

Aphelion Rapture Grenache 2021

Grenache | South Australia, Australia

Wow there is some zip. The blend is more than the sum of its parts. The different perfumes: violets and fading flowers, fruits: red, rhubarb, blood orange, a little musk, spice and beyond marry offering a complex profile. The build in tannin across the palate is fine yet not insignificant. There is more immediate harmony and expression than with the single vineyard wines. Darkness with freshness. The refreshing, thirst quenching nature of the wine is once again a demonstration of the shift from

Cascina Roccalini Barbaresco 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

When a young winery pop's up a little leg work is required to suss them out. Obviously, the most important thing is what's in the glass. Let's add the other bits of the equation though. The vineyards are right next to Olek Bondonio's joint, they used to supply their Neb to Dante Scaglione at Bruno Giacosa for ten years, and Dante helped them start their own venture. BOOM!The 2019 Barbaresco is playful expression, strawberries and cream lift from the glass. The label is a visual descriptor of

🇮🇹Bravo Isabella!👏🏻
As with the 2015 & 2017 I found myself not really wanting to write tasting notes simply wanting to devour the glass!Sassella typically produces the most elegant wines of the three communes with Inferno next and Grumello the boldest.Another superb Sassella. Smoking wine. Everything is here and in all the right places. Elegance and sophistication caressing long fine tannins. Seamless harmony. Energy and vitality in a very complete wine. François Villard Saint-Joseph ‘Mairlant’ 2022

Shiraz/Syrah | Saint-Joseph, France

This is very good. Fruit development is excellent. Savoury, umami, red fruited with a lick of spice, the stalk tannin is of quality with a playful grip. Love to have this 5-7 years. Great drinking out of the gate. Tannins would love a little food. Long pure finish. Great shape and flow. Not at all heavy, elegant.Excellent comparision with Hauts Châssis’ Saint-Joseph made with no whole bunches.Saturated violet color. Vibrant, spice-tinged dark berry, cherry, potpourri and licori

Alkina ‘Old Quarter’ Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2019

Rhône Blend | South Australia, Australia

The step up in sophistication from the Field blend is clear. There’s more composure. The line and length are on show. Harmony and shape to the palate. The finish here sees excellent persistence. This could easily give a quality CndP a run for it’s money. You can feel the energy. A very complete wine with a lot going on. The acid is finer, the palate together. The whole bunch tannins more elegant. This is a triumph.Coming back to this bottle after it had been open under Coravin for a coup
