To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “Elegant and pure aromas of smoked apple, mineral reduction and citrus zest give way to rich, caressing and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that deliver huge length on the borderline painfully intense finish that is similarly akin to having a small pebble in the mouth. This chalky and saline-inflected effort is impressively powerful and built to reward mid to even longer-term cellaring. Excellent.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 92 ♥ Outstandin

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “An exuberantly floral-suffused nose reveals additional nuances of matchstick character, lemon confit and a broad range of white-fleshed fruit scents. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the larger-bodied flavors that are a combination of power and finesse on the beautifully focused and lingering finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is also terrific and very much recommended.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 93 ♥ Outstan

Yet another superb 2021 Barbaresco. Clarity, purity & persistence. Sitting at 14%, the vitality of the 2021 Rombone is clear. A thread of acid sits in synergy with fine, long, grape-first chalky tannins. On the redder side of the fruit spectrum, showing the touch of skilled hands, particularly during time on skins as the mouthfeel caresses. It has much going on with a perfume balanced by an earthiness wrapping the core of fruit. A triumph!Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Oct 2024

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2020

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

‘The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is explosive, bright and punchy at first, evolving from cranberry to cherry with dusty sage, spiced blood orange and Tuscan dust. The is pure elegance, texturally deep and nearly velvety in feel with a core of tart wild berries that add contrast as a balsamic tinge emerges along with fine-grained tannins toward the close. It finishes long, structured and staining, leaving a flinty sensation and primary core of fruit that drenches the palate as violet inner flor

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2019

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is a delicate, perfumed Barbera with a Nebbiolo-like feeling of mid-weight structure. Succulent dark cherry fruit, tobacco, spice, leather, menthol and blood orange are pushed forward. A kick of bright acids on the finish keeps things vibrant. This unique, idiosyncratic Barbera is compelling. I have no doubt Cappellano fans with love it. Drink 2024-2034Antonio Galloni - NR as per request from Cappellano

Auguste Clape Saint Péray 2021

White Blend | Rhône Valley, France

Bright, freshly cut pear on the nose. Full-bodied with more weight than most 2021 St-Pérays, teamed with vibrant, buzzy acidity that really lasts into the finish. Lovely freshness and length. Different in style to their 2020, but similar in quality, with really noticeable cleansing acidity. Matt Walls, Decanter 94 Points

Domaine des Roches Neuves Samur Blanc 'Clos de l'Échelier' 2021
Bone Dry!
Stunning Chenin Blanc to Rival the Drinking Pleasure of 1er Cru White Burg & the Worlds Best Dry Rizza! So fine. Superbly textured. Stunning acid of epic length, piercing long and lovely. Fruit length and depth continue to build epically long after swallowing. Incredibly complex & layered. Such depth. Citrus, lemon, a little white grapefruit, pear & quince, garrigue woody herb. When the acid settles and generosity builds with time in bottle this will be an absolute ripper. Wait 3-5 years.

Vietti Barbera ‘Vigna Vecchia Scarrone’ 2022

Barbera | Piedmont, Castiglione Falletto

The last bottle of this I had was a 2013 to start a Vietti Barolo session including Riservas from 1997 and 1982. It was one of the wines of the night. Incredibly intensity. The mid palate weight and layering of both flavours and tannins is ridiculously impressive. So fine and long. Deceptively complex with wonderful earthiness, so pretty, flowers. Excellent acid tannin complex. A generosity that has been tamed. Impeccable fruit. Definitely pulled back oak use massively to the point that it is an

The reds of Chassagne a little secret that's slowly making its way out of the bag. I had one of Alex's red the 1978 monopole Morgeot 'La Cardeuse' in September 2020. In a word stunning. Ask Alex and he'll tell you the soil profile is very similar to Chambolle in that neck of the woods. Here too there is a peppery character lurking in the background of the rich and generous if not especially dense flavors that conclude in a balanced, mildly rustic and lingering finale that is fir

Roagna Timorasso Derthona Montemarzino 2017

Timorasso | Colli Tortonesi, Italy

A grape variety saved by saved by Massa & on the rise! With Vietti and Roagna adding their names to the few making Timorasso, it's clear something special is happening in Derthona (the old name for Tortona).I've tried the Massa's entry level version and loved its flavours and textures. Can't wait to try Roagna's version.

Barale Barolo ‘Bussia’ 2018

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Oh so pretty! This is very well played. Bussia is right in the north of Monforte, which as a whole was very poorly defined during the MGA classification. It tends to produce wines of more elegance than many of the Crus further south in Monforte. Barale’s 2018s have been beautifully composed. The Bussia tannins are fine and restrained. The development and oxidative handling demands quality fruit and it has that with a solid core of red fruits layered in with savoury, earthy notes. I’m enjoyin

Swinney Farvie Syrah 2021

Shiraz/Syrah | West Australia, Australia

Grape first as with all the Swinney wines, there is beauty here. The cooler year offering more energy compared to its 2020 predecessor.  Incredibly complex fruit, beautifully framed with fine layered tannins. The harmony, development and elegance for a wine of such youth is impressive making for a delicious drink now. Looking at the 2018 in a mini-vertical of all Favrie releases the evolution over a few years offered up intriguing secondary development.“The 2021 Farvie Syrah is lighte
