Figli Luigi Oddero 'Rombone' Barbaresco 2018
Stunning!
With Luciano in the vineyards, Francesco and Dante in both vineyard and winery some sort of crazy wine magic is happening! The dream team has been at it again! The Figli Luigi Oddero 2018 Barbaresco Rombone opens to tart cherry fruit and plum, with some sweet earthy tones or tobacco at the back. The wine feels rich and well concentrated to the palate, with a touch of extra ripeness that comes as a surprise for a vintage that was relatively cool and cloudy overall. If you love the bright prima

Viognier is such a unique variety! The perfume intoxicating, the texture caressing! A single-vineyard offering from the Coteau de Chéry, one of the appellation’s most valued terroirs. The grapes from these 50yr old vines are fermented in stainless steel (one third) and barrique of which 25% is new oak. The wine is aged for one year on lees in barrique and a further three months in stainless steel before being bottled.Widely known as the King of Condrieu, Andre Perret is considered one of

A complex, textural and thrilling Chenin Blanc. Two parcels, one picked earlier and devoid of botrytis, one later with a little botrytis marry seamlessly presenting us with an entrancing creature. Dry Chenin of this standing is truly something special. There’s a certain composure and harmony here. A fine example, the textural elements show a leaning to less alcohol and higher perceived acidity than its sibling ‘La Caillardières’ adding a degree of restraint and sophistication to thi

The 2022er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese offers a finely smoky and minty nose of slightly riper and yellow fruits, almond cream, jasmine, passion fruit, Conference pear, juniper, muscade, smoke, and a touch of licorice. The wine has good presence and animating yellow fruits mixed to candied grapefruit. The finish is slightly broader and more powerful (at least for Prüm standards), yet the aftertaste remains fine and elegant. This is a superb Spätlese. 2030-2047Jean Fisch and Davi

Tenuta di Carleone ‘Il Guercio’ 2021

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Chianti Classico

Named after a Tuscan word for "one-eyed rascal," the Tenuta di Carleone 2021 Il Guercio (in a bottle with a white wax capsule) is all Sangiovese with up to 40% whole cluster and as a much as five months of extended maceration in cement vats only. The wine delivers a very clear and variety-faithful expression with bright plum, wild cherry and iris root. You can taste the artisanal approach of this pretty wine. There are dusty limestone sensations that add to a cooling finish. Fruit comes from

New Cuvée from 2021 – A parcel in chaume worked separately. This terroir is often used for sweet wines. Makes a great dry according to Thomas (...and Me!) highlighting again the importance of the flavour and phenolics from the skins.Yields of just 15-20Hl/Ha from very old vines give us a wine that is a delight in the glass! Half to ⅓ of DRC's yields! Fermentation in new wood aged in the same wood for 1 year then 5 months in stainless. This is the same as for the Bastingage.F

Along with the likes of Dureuil-Janthial and Jaeger-Defaix, Domaine de la Folie is showing just how much potential there is in the Côte Chalonaise. Their top white the 1er Cru 'Clos St Jacques' rests in a state of grace. A line of fine acid balances elegant, transparent fruit of great depth and length. Florals and citrus are weave into an array of complex aromas. Seamless. It's been made by a clever hand!Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Sept 2024The 2022 Rully Clos St. Jacques 1er Cru comes

The Girolamo Russo 2021 Etna Rosso San Lorenzo is a very exciting wine with so much energy and verve. It opens to lean-bodied concentration with a brilliant ruby shine. The wine shows a long array of wild fruit and tiny berry aromas backed by crushed white pepper and crushed stone. San Lorenzo is one of the most impressive interpretations of Etna. I highly recommend you try and cellar this wine.Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate 96+ Points12 ha between 700 and 800m altitude, some 100-y

Domenico Clerico Barolo di Monforte 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

This is an excellent evolution for Clerico. The Barolo di Monforte has wonderful harmony. Very expressive, where historically Monforte shows much firmer, structured tannins.  Demonstrating how the hand of the maker can create a wine that is more approachable upon release. The tannins are exceptional, long, even and fine. Yes, structurally present in a very good way and with the core of fruit to hold them. This will undoubtedly deliver more in the bottle as it resolves and the secondary devel

Larmandier-Bernier Longitude Blanc de Blancs (2018) NV
Made with Passion!
Deceptively sophisticated, the depth of fruit is beautifully counterpointed with stunning mineral acid & layers of flavour! Larmandier-Bernier was one of the first grower Champagnes to make a mark in Australia. Everyone had been used to hyped up, over marketed crap from big houses. These guys sent a ripple through the market that became a shock wave of yumminess! 100% Chardonnay Longitude is the more elegant of the two in comparison with Latitude. The Longitude base 2018 is a raging success.

Fascinating comparison with the Pavelot Dominode 18. There’s a similarity with the fleshy generous fruit and shape to the fruit. The Tollot Beaut goes for a slightly softer mouthfeel with very silky tannins. Like many 2018’s rich mouth filling fruit is at play, a darkness underlying. I’m going to be fascinated to see the Leroux, Pavelot & Tollot-Beaut Savignys evolve over time. As this opens in the glass the air induces refinement and elegance. Delicious wine that in a blind tasting I'
