‘A fresh, cool and more elegant array is comprised by notes of both red and dark pinot fruit along with background floral and earth suggestions. The succulent, round and delicious middle weight flavors are finer if less powerful, all wrapped in a lingering finish that progressively tightens up as it sits on the palate to the point that it becomes quite compact. This will definitely need a few years to unwind. Drink 2028+.’ Burghound.com January 2020.

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Sangiovese | Montalcino, Italy

The Fuligni 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine, and it shines a much-deserved spotlight on one of the most consistent estates in Montalcino. It is bright and luminous with a dark ruby shine. The bouquet reveals deeply layered tones of red cherry, wild berry, rose, earth and candied violets. Give the wine an extra twirl or two, and you get some rosemary and lavender. Soft dusty mineral and limestone also appear. I'd definitely put this bottle on a short list of the most recommended b

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2017
Intoxicating! 🌹

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

It just invites you in! This is what wine is about! There’s a sensuality to Costanti's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino. It’s something about the way it draws you in and warms the soul. Its bouquet straddles both the light and dark sides of Sangiovese, rising up with alluring flowery perfumes, cedar dust and crushed cherry, yet then swaying toward rich brown spices and clove. The textures are velvety-smooth and elegant, ushering in a dense core of fleshy red berry fruits, which leave a coating of

Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Pommard 2019

Pinot Noir | Pommard, Burgundy

Resistance was futile, I had to crack one of these (May 2023). Kelley's note is bang on. Though it has certainly resolved a little since his tasting. I concur that waiting a decade will offer up something special. The missing piece of the tasting note jigsaw, texture. Important for Pommard given the significant evolution from structured wine produced by the village to the seamless, refined elegant tannins of this and many other examples. Think Thierry Violot-Guillemard, Leroux et al.The

Nervi-Conterno Gattinara 2021

Nebbiolo | Italy, Gattinara

Historically these wines have had Amazing transparency, sophistication shining though. The 2021 Gattinara is brilliant and finely cut. In 2021, the Gattinara is a sinewy, tense wine with bright acids and finely sculpted fruit front and center. Sweet red berries, cedar, pipe tobacco and freshly cut flowers all grace this expressive Gattinara from Conterno-Nervi. The ethereal finish is sublime.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 91 PointsComing from four crus within the Gattinara commune, rangi

Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo ‘Villero’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Grace under pressure! Castiglione Falletto shining through with those faded flower. Excellent long tannins of substance and sophistication. A beguiling core of fruit, brooding, yet, you can see what is to come. Flow and shape. It feels very complete. Fine and long. It has that intrigue that steps it up another notch. Very good. Earthy and truffled, serious stuff. Persistence has you taking note as it dances along.Rocche di Castiglione and Villero in Castiglione Falletto consistently sit amon

Lovers of flavourful Chardonnay will be happy here! Amiot 'Les Vergers' sits toward the more generous end of the spectrum. Tasting this reminded me of a chat I had with Franco d'Anna about the pendulum from riper to lean styles at a time when many were pushing the boundaries of the lean side to an extreme. 'Chardonnay should have flavour' he proclaimed.Lovers of flavourful Chardonnay will be happy here. Vergers should have a solid line of acid and this does. Full of riper stone fruit, melon,

Lovers of flavourful Chardonnay will be happy here! Amiot is turning out a compelling set of 1er Cru's. Their monopole Clos Saint-Abdon like the other two 1er Cru's I've tasted has a divine mouthfeel. It's the finish so pure and long. As the Amiot's open they step up several rungs of the ladder. They build and harmonise beautifully in the glass. Flavourful like the other 1er's there's a little more citrus here. The weight, line and length is thirst-quenching with excellent energy. Powerful and muscular, the 2020 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is richer than the ethereal Clos de la Cave, offering up aromas of sweet cherries, plum compote, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it’s broad shouldered and fleshy, with lively acids and a long, expansive finish. Drink 2030-2050 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92 Points

Willi Schaefer Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2019

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

A highly aromatic, fruit-driven and perfumed nose of William’s pear, pineapple juice, apricot, passionfruit, banana flambé, honeyed peach and melon, all wrapped in white mint and a hint of toffee. Superbly sweet, unctuous and delicately smooth on the beautifully layered and intense palate. A tickly touch of acidity adds a gorgeous sensation of lightness to the nicely energetic and intense finish. A comparatively opulent and rich expression of auslese that flirts with BA presence. It proves
