Corzano e Paterno Chianti ‘Terre di Corzano’ 2021

Red Blend | Tuscany, Chianti Classico

This wine, along with Corzano e Paterno’s top of the line 100% Sangiovese ‘I Tre Borri’ were two of the first Chianti’s that that piqued my interest and demonstrated the potential of this beautiful variety. Fresh zippy acid, red cherry, excellent tannins with a little playful grip and spice. Delicious.  Grape first. Earthy profile with dark fruit of energy and vibrancy a little perfume floats over the top ~ violets me thinks. Layered delicious and vibrant an excellent comparison to

Max Ferdinand Richter Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett 2017

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

Seriously! How often to Graacher and Wehlener just come up with the goods. This is a superb Kabinett.  It has that slide flinty, reductive edge, less so than Prüm's Graacher. Huge energy here with a sense of translucence somehow coming through over the divine fruits. Reminds me of Clemens Busch. It has incredible length, with a pinch of salt to finish. Refreshing, mouthwatering, succulent juice, just as a good Kabinett should be! From 70- to 80-year-old vines, the 2017 Graacher Himmelreich

Julian Haart ‘Haart’ Riesling 2020

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

A lovely build to a just off dry rizza. Here there is a little more generosity supported by excellent acid. Again the shape, mouthfeel and flow is excellent. The extension in depth and length here is impressive for just a few more coins. The flavours are riper, lemon sherbet without the sweetness and rind oil with grapefruit, with a little hint of baking spice, again the savoury earthy pops. Very sophisticated making. Incredibly moreish. Elderflower and much more on offer. Divine wine.

Boasso Barbera d’Alba 2020

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

This is Cracking Barbera. Complete & Delicious! Once again beautiful elevage, juicy fruit rich fruit with super fine acid, lovely earthiness, layered, long fine texture with just a little Serralunga structure and just enough edge on it to make it cleansing. Spiced fun. Without a doubt the best value Barbera we have. Earthy divine. So happy to have this back on the list after missing a year!

Forjas del Salnés ‘Leirana’ Albariño 2022

Albariño | Val do Salnés, Galicia

The gentler 2022 Leirana reflects a warmer year of rounder wines and slightly lower acidity. They are increasing the amount of oak, and eventually, this could end up being 100% in (used and large) foudres, but the wines don't show any oak. They blended all the wines before they are put in foudre, and they feel it results in better integration of the wine. This represents the Salnés region of Rías Baixas with the salty and tasty marine and granite twist. 40,000 bottles. There are two lots of th

TeMata Estate Awatea Cabernet Merlot 2018

Red Blend | New Zealand, Hawke's Bay

The Awatea is a fantastic introduction to the Te Mata Estate wines. You get the supreme craftsmanship of a family owned winery with over a century of experience making wines in this region, some of the best fruit in NZ and so much history. Little sister to the Coleraine, this also a Bordeaux blend - the 2018 is made up of 48% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot, 15% cabernet franc. The wine gives ripe blackberry and blackcurrant aromatics with elements of vanilla creme and sandalwood. On the palat

Buscemi ‘Il Rosso’ 2019

Red Blend | Etna, Italy

Buscemi's 'Il Rossoi' is much more than just the perfect light to medium bodied summer red! What a delight! As expected from a vineyard at 980m above see level this looks very much like a cool climate rendition of Grenache. The Nerellos adding to the texture and complexity. Fine boned with a line of dusty tannins, the crunchy cherry bomb fruit balances juicy acid nicely. Full of energy & freshness, a superb light to medium bodied summer red. Talenti Rosso di Montalcino 2021

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

A staple on the Wine Decoded list! Another ripping Rosso from Talenti. Superb balance and texture. Plush with beautiful supple tannins, luscious fruit, juicy acid, and plenty of intrigue. Just like Talenti's Brunello this has to be one of the best value Rosso's year in year out. It too has great harmony and is delicious straight out of the gate.  It's like Dr Evil's Mini Me! All that red fruit, earthiness, baking spices, woody herbs, great energy and much, much more.

Wine Decoded Yarra Valley Shiraz 2017

Shiraz/Syrah | Yarra Valley, Australia

Our 3rd and Best Release is Here! I'm quietly very happy with this one. As a passion project we had no commercial time constraints and were able to give this much more time maturing in barrel and then bottle prior to release, over 5 years prior to release. The end result is a wine of poise and balance. I reckon I've nailed it. Delicious, cool climate Shiraz with energy, vibrant fruit, layered savoury, earthy complexity with pops of spice. An underlying darkness, fine, long, plush and caressin

Alphonse Mellot Sancerre La Moussière HALF 2020

Sauvignon Blanc | Sancerre, France

There’s Sauvignon and then there is Sauvignon from Sancerre. There’s Sancerre and then there is Dagenau. Then a pack chasing him. Mellot right at the front of that pack. Beautiful poise, delicacy and vertical long shape to the palate. Lovely bright fruit that has shifted beyond primary to aromas and flavours of intrigue. Crisp fine acid. This is an impressive drink. There’s a little passion fruit and gooseberry if you look for it. Overall it’s just a wonderful seemless Sauvignon Blanc.

Superb! Bravi Francesco!🍷
The 'Side Project' of ex-Bruno Giacosa's winemaker Francesco Versio this is a stunner! Given Francesco used to make wine at Bruno Giacosa it is hardly surprising that he knocks out a solid Dolcetto. Giacosa being known as arguably the best maker of the variety. Co-incidentally the last Dolcetto I had, a few days before this, was a Bruno Giacosa made by Francesco, and, it was one of the best Dolcetto I've had the pleasure of devouring. The Dogliani DOCG covers some broad territory. Often of mu

A.Rodda ‘Baxendale’ Whitlands Chardonnay 2022

Chardonnay | Victoria, Australia

The latest addition to Adrian's Chardonnay range. The Baxendale is supple plush, clean & long. For mine the most immediately approachable Australian Chardonnay just keeps getting better and better. Last year I was tasting a line of OK white Burgundy then moved onto A.Rodda's Chardonnays & BOOM! They're superb wines. The Baxendale is supple plush, clean & long. For mine the most immediately approachable. The acid a bit more resolved. Oak nicely balanced, edge of pithy stuff. Florals, c

Nascetta - Italy's answer to Gewurztraminer. Fragrant, spicy and fresh. This is a fun, youthful wine that is drinking well now but could possibly benefit from a little more time to develop, allowing the fruit and underlying structure to better harmonise. Wonderful aromas come swinging out of the glass, with pops of pity citrus, yellow stone fruits, white blossoms and a line of saline minerality. The palate marries ripe, juicy fruit with a savoury lines of lees and spicy white pepper; gentle p
