La Digoine is a site at the foot of a slope, known for centuries to provide the deep soil and growing conditions necessary for excellent red wine. Our vineyard here is planted in moderate-yield Pinot Noir.La Digoine can be drunk very young. Within two or three months of bottling, it demonstrates immediate appeal with red berry fruit and a balance of roundness, structure, and lenght on the palate. However, this is another versatil wine which benefits from bottle aging. After 18 to 24 mo

This Climat is almost an extension of the slopes where the Grands Crus grow, with only a small path separating them. Sitting directly alongside Les Preuses, the proximity to its illustrious neighbours results in powerful, mineral wines. This could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its equally cool, elegant and airy aromas of white-fleshed fruit, floral, iodine and subtle passion fruit-scanted nose. The super-sleek, refined and energetic medium weight flavors possess both ample mineral

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2017

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti captures all of the natural richness of the vintage in spades. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, mint, rose petal, star anise and blood orange are some of the many sensations that develop with some air. Though classically built in terms of structure, the 2017 is decidedly ripe in its expression of fruit. This is a very serious wine. Time in the glass really helps bring things together and tone down some of the most exotic ripeness that is present at the outset. An

Àlvaro Palacios ‘Gratallops’ 2019

Red Blend | Spain, Catalunya

Excellent. So fine and long, great persistence, harmony and intrigue. Poise, balance, complexity and personality. Bright fruits with mineral acid. Slatey, earthy, savour with some darker fruits. Inredible vitality, such sublte energetic fruit.Paul KaanInitially quite a mineral nose with a blend of earth and gun smoke, this gives way to concentrated layers of red and black cherry, blueberry yoghurt and liquorice spice. The palate is bright and full-bodied, with firm savoury tannins an

Clemens Busch Riesling Marienburg 1er Grosses-Gewächs 'Rothenpfad' 2020
DRY
"Dry Wine of the Vintage!" Jean Fisch & David Rayer, Mosel Fine Wines AP: 16 21. The 2020er Marienburg Rothenpfad GG, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, was fermented spontaneously in traditional oak casks from fruit harvested in an iron-rich part of the Marienburg vineyard. It offers a great nose made of pear, vineyard peach, strawberry, laurel, cinnamon, and fine smoky elements. The wine proves impeccably balanced on the dry but not bone-dry palate. A ripe sense of zest provid

Wow! Initially a little spritz that swirled of quickly, the protective nature of dissolved CO2 goes some way to explaining why this wine looks younger than the “2020 Retour a Terre”.  Bottling with a little CO2 is a sign that they see this as a wine for the longer haul. It is obsolete to repeat many of Kelley’s remarks. It’s clear that the fruit is exceptional, the mid-palate weight, always a sign of quality Chardonnay, is impressive, along with the flow, shape and texture. Incred

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2018

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is fabulous. In some recent vintages, the Cappellano Barbera has been a pretty big wine, but in 2018 it is all finesse. The purity of the fruit is striking, but the aromatics and mid-weight structure - both of which lean towards Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo - are just captivating. Kirsch, sweet spice, mint, ripe raspberry and a burst of bright acids linger. I would be thrilled to own this. Harvest was on October 3, very late for Barbera. Drink 2022-2032Antonio Gall

Zárate Albariño ‘El Palomar’ 2021

Albariño | Val do Salnés, Galicia

170 year old pre-phylloxera vines.Skin contact and oxidative handling are beautifully balanced. Savoury and earthy with that Albariño fresh green herb hit. Fascinating to watch it freshen in the glass, bruised apple falls away & the fruit shines. A fine phenolic grip & spice from the skin contact add intrigue.Opens beautifully on both nose and palate over several hours, intensity builds & it flows gracefully. Rafael Palacios ‘As Sortes’ Godello 2022

White Wine | Valdeorras, Galicia

Huge jump in depth and length over the 'Loura'. A layer of oxidative development adding complexity to the fruit weight. A more refreshing mouthfeel along combines with a step up in salinity. The nutty, lees complex a faintly toasty line. The core of citrus rind / oil fruit easily holding its own. Excellent balance and expression. A complete harmonious wine without artefact. Drinks beautifully with a day open. A little baking spice. Loads of nuance. Seriously sharp wine. The 2022 As Sortes

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “Elegant and pure aromas of smoked apple, mineral reduction and citrus zest give way to rich, caressing and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that deliver huge length on the borderline painfully intense finish that is similarly akin to having a small pebble in the mouth. This chalky and saline-inflected effort is impressively powerful and built to reward mid to even longer-term cellaring. Excellent.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 92 ♥ Outstandin

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “An exuberantly floral-suffused nose reveals additional nuances of matchstick character, lemon confit and a broad range of white-fleshed fruit scents. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the larger-bodied flavors that are a combination of power and finesse on the beautifully focused and lingering finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is also terrific and very much recommended.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 93 ♥ Outstan

Yet another superb 2021 Barbaresco. Clarity, purity & persistence. Sitting at 14%, the vitality of the 2021 Rombone is clear. A thread of acid sits in synergy with fine, long, grape-first chalky tannins. On the redder side of the fruit spectrum, showing the touch of skilled hands, particularly during time on skins as the mouthfeel caresses. It has much going on with a perfume balanced by an earthiness wrapping the core of fruit. A triumph!Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Oct 2024
