Sitting between the Vaillons and Mont de Milieu in terms of richness and minerality Delicacy, laced and fine, perfumed, elegant and long, a little primary would be interesting to see what a little time in old wood would do for this. The salinity is back in force. Tighter it will need bottle age to show it’s best. The phenolics / acid complex will take time. Everything is there waiting to come together and give a little patience you will be in a very happy place.

The richest of the 1ers! Richer and more out to play there’s plenty of fruit drive here. Honeyed, a little nutty with maple at play, crème patissere. Generosity from this warmer site is tempered by a line of acid. That long ferment mid-palate with a little baking spice, pop of cracked yeast. Long.

Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge 2022
The whole nine yards!

Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge 2022

Pinot Noir | Santenay, Beaune

This year's blend includes Bourgogne-level fruit from Leroux’s key sources: the excellent Maison Dieu in Pommard, Mon Poulain in Volnay and Les Belles Côtes in Meursault. In 2022, these sites are complemented by village wines from Monthélie. Leroux opted to use whole-bunch fermentation only on the homegrown components. Maturation took place in 2,200-litre Grenier oak casks. As always, this punches way above its weight division. So crunchy and pure, yet with depth, it’s loaded with gr

“A deft touch of wood sets off the ripe aromas of white orchard fruit, sea breeze and a hint of shellfish. The delicious and slightly richer flavors possess a touch more volume on the seductively textured, mouth coating and firmer finale. This is also lovely for its level and worth checking out." Bindi KAYE Pinot Noir 2023

Pinot Noir | Victoria, Australia

This is a very sentimental wine from our most elevated vineyard, planted in 2001, that pays tribute to my mother, Kaye. It's a vineyard with a stunning perspective over the other vineyards, the winery, house and to the forests and hills beyond. There are some lovely metaphors, no doubt. The site has a lot of quartz and mudstone, a smattering of volcanic soils that have eroded down from the volcanic plateau above, and produces a wine of fragrance, structure and complexity. The 2023 Kaye is alread

Les Pargues is a Chablis lieu-dit situated on a ridge between Montmains and Vosgros. It has the same exposure as the 1er Crus of Vaillons and Montmains, so it’s a very handy site. The story goes that this site was originally classified as a 1er Cru level vineyard (pre-AOC), before being largely abandoned during WWI (when there was a labour shortage). Regardless of this story, locals rightly speak very highly of this site. The vines in Moreau’s tiny parcel average 50-plus years old and 15-

The name of this appellation comes from Mont de Lieu which marks the border between Burgundy and Champagne, illustrated by a marker stone dividing the two duchies which can be found on its summit. With a double exposure moving from south to southeast facing, this terroir benefits from a higher average temperature and more sunshine than the other Premiers Crus. The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu unwinds in the glass with notions of orange oil, clear honey, beeswax and white flowers. I first had the junior wine of this back in 1994 while studying winemaking in Adelaide. Over the decades it has become more refined. A great expression of Barbera. Those in the know will tell you that good vineyards planted to Barbera in Asti will beat the bounty of average sites that have been planted to the variety in Alba."The 2021 Barbera d'Asti La Crena is exceptional. Bright, red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper and rose petal are all beautifully delineated. In recent times V

“A relatively young estate, Lavantureux is definitely a domaine to watch. Arnaud and David are now running things, with a recent 0.95ha acquisition in Vau de Vey. Farmed by hand, this is a delightful Premier Cru which emphasises the character of this steep, stony climat. Lovely density on the palate with an intriguing lime character, balanced by mineral, flinty notes and a touch of creamy oak adding more complexity. Subtle and nuanced.”Decanter

Jean-Paul et Benôit Droin Chablis 2022

Chardonnay | Chablis, Burgundy

Smoky aromas of shellfish and Granny Smith apples gives way to more voluminous flavors that enjoy better acid support on the balanced and sneaky long finish. This isn't exactly classic in style but it's close and is a wine that offers fine quality for its level. Allen Meadows, Burghound 89-91 Points
