A perfumed and exceptionally pretty, elegant and pure nose speaks of wafting essence of red berries, especially cherry, along with exotic spice and floral wisps. I very much like the texture of the beautifully refined middleweight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that displays excellent length. This could use better depth but that should only be a matter of patience. 2034+ ♥ Sweet spot OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound  (91-94) Point

Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Les Champeaux’ 2020

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

With its eroded limestone walls covered in creepers and wild flowers, this is one of Gevrey's most picturesque vineyards. It is situated up high, on the border of Brochon next to Les Evocelles, in what is simply the most beautiful part of Gevrey. The vines here are now 80 years old and the soils are very stony with red clays, and the mother-rock very close to the surface. Mortet ploughs his four small plots (totaling 0.5-hectares) by horse. This is a site that typically delivers very small be

I had the pleasure of devouring the 2016 about 18 months ago over an aged scotch fillet with a friend. A wine of presence and importance. Along with the other Priorats I've had from Àlvaro it's clear he's got it right in both the vineyard and the winery. After all, to make a wine like the legendary L'Ermita you need mad skills!Even just after landing in the country when wines are a little out of sorts from shipping across the world, the perfume builds in the glass with all the trademark

Roagna Barolo Pira MAGNUM 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

On openning the Pira was all beefstock, savoury with a hint of reduction. Revisited with 15 hours in the glass. There you have it DJ Luca has been at it again. The fruit has come to the fore. The faded flowers so common with great wines from Castiglione Falleto are shining along with red fruit, orange and a hint of baking spice. It’s the shape, focus, mouthfeel and exceptional interplay between fruit of depth and length weighted beautifully against long even tannin matched to vibrant acid that

Vietti Barbaresco ‘Rabajà Riserva’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is a new wine from Vietti. It soars out of the glass with a captivating bouquet redolent of crushed flowers, herbs, mint and orange peel. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Nervy and classic in build, with gorgeous inner sweetness, the 2019 is utterly irresistible.Antoni Galloni, Vinous 95 PointsVietti worked in the Rabajà cru in the 1980s and has now returned to make this inaugural vintage of the latest wine to join the portfolio. And what a stun

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Gabutti’ JEROBOAM 3L 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

A wonderful expression of Serralunga, all of the tea, slate, graphite, exceptional quality tannins, with a presence and sophistication. The firm mouthfeel of seriously good Serralunga tannins. Again such a complete wine. The nose draws you in. Begging you to drink. A darkness and energy that is palpable.Impressive gear. Precise, and pure, wearing the vineyard and commune on its sleeve. Superb fruit of depth and length. Great drinking here with much much more to come.

“The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is deep and muscular, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers, buttery pastry, freshly baked bread and hazelnuts. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with racy acids and a long, elegantly mordant finish, it's a benchmark for the appellation that still flies under the radar.”William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 93-95 Points“This has very good intensity with scents of orange blossom, saffron, and light dried hon

Domaine Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang VDF MAGNUM 2022

Sauvignon Blanc | Pouilly-Fumé, Centre Loire

“The 2022 Pur Sang is done in a really sophisticated style. Despite its long élevage, it needs a little more time for its oak (demi-muids and cigar-shaped barrels) to integrate fully and for its sense of strictness to mellow. But this isn't a wine you'd crack open on release anyway. It is pure and clear, with fine texture and a tenderness to its core. The 2022 shows fine lines and length, with tangy green flavors like cornichons and dill meeting green orange on the finish.”Rebecca Gibb

Here a more reticent and cooler nose is both gamier and spicier. The super-sleek medium-bodied flavors possess a gorgeous mouthfeel together with solid power on the more refined and ever-so-slightly longer and notably firmer finish. This is impeccably well-balanced but in contrast to the Bressandes, extended patience will absolutely be necessary, indeed I would suggest not touching a bottle before 10 years of age. 2037+Allen Meadows, Burghound (92-95) Points

“The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, matured in 40% new oak, is intense on the nose, opulent yet controlled with mainly red berry fruit, allspice and rose petal scents, just a hint of black olive emerging with time. Very well-defined. The medium-bodied palate comes armed with a voluptuous entry, almost viscous in texture, intense yet delineated with a gradual build to its sweet and detailed finish. This will require four to five years to open for business, but it is certainl

A total seductress, the 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a dark beauty. It opens with a dusty bouquet of dried flowers and masses of cherry sauce, offset by spiced orange and nuances of violet pastille. It sweeps across the palate, a model of purity, with crisp wild berry fruits energized by tantalizing acidity and shavings of dark chocolate. Crunchy mineral tones emerge toward the close. The 2017 lingers impossibly long yet remains completely fresh. Grippy tannins remain as hints of

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes sheds a touch of youthful reduction to reveal aromas of cherries, wild berries, exotic spices, forest floor and licorice.
