Pinot Noir | Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy

Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! “Ripe and nicely fresh aromas of plum, dark currant, red cherry, anise and jasmine tea give way to succulent, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that also possess a beguiling texture while displaying excellent depth and persistence on the youthfully austere and well-balanced finish..” Burghound 91-94 PointsI've had the pleasure of drinking La Grande Rue a couple of times. Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! An earthier and more somber if nicely layered nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark berries along with a whisper of the sauvage along with a floral top note. The delicious and rounded medium weight flavors possess focused power that really comes up on the dusty, chalky, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finale. This built-to-age effort is going to require at least some patience as it

Domaine Didier Dagueneau Silex VDF 2022

Sauvignon Blanc | Pouilly-Fumé, Centre Loire

“The 2022 Silex is not a lot of fun upon release; dry and tense, it really needs time to mellow. There's flesh from the clay element of its clay-flint soils, which is felt on entry but tightens up as it moves through the mouth. This remains a wine of drive, firmness and upright structure; it speaks of the place it comes from rather than its variety. Aromatics are almost a forgotten element; this is a wine about structure and texture. There is a lemony, wild goat cheese-like note and a distinct

Weber noted that they protected the vines with warming pots that allowed for a yield of about 22 hl/ha. More obvious oak influence stops short of fighting with the spicy and earthy purple fruit-scented nose. There is notably more density, power and volume to the bigger-bodied flavors that possess a seductive mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the robust but not rustic finale that delivers markedly better depth and persistence. 2029+ Sweet spot Outstanding ♥Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-9

Massolino “Albesani” Barbaresco MAGNUM 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

On the western hills above Neive, Albesani is one of the great vineyards of Barbaresco. In his “Barbaresco MGA”, Alessandro Masnaghetti writes that “the combination of soil, stature and exposure creates one of the greatest vineyards of the Langhe”. So perhaps it won’t be a surprise that, of the three Barbaresco parcels, Massolino has chosen to bottle its first single-vineyard wine from this site. As Franco Massolino explains: “From the very first moment this wine began to ferment, we

A more deeply pitched nose combines notes of poached plum and exotic tea with those of violet, lilac and a suggestion of wood. The richer and more voluminous flavors possess more evident power if not the same refinement on the more structured finale. This is also nicely balanced but in contrast to the Groseilles, it’s not likely to drink especially well before 8 to 10 years have passed. This one’s an argument for blending sites! The Barolo Via Nuova is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Via Nuova opens to a little more dark fruit and ripe berry in this vintage. The wine is buttoned up from all sides into a tight little package of aromas. Excellent development, the time on lees shows. Generous and developed with super zippy acid, delicious drinking now. Pinot shining with chardonnay linearity and chalkiness adding backbone. Super creamy lees action. A powerful core of fruit yet with a restraint. Chalky and saline. Layered and complex. This is very good. Gentle aldehyde offering nuttiness and intrigue.“The 2014 Extra-Brut Ay Grand Cru bristles with tension. It’s a great choice for readers who enjoy focused Champagnes.

Background hints of wood can be found on the ripe and nicely fresh aromas of poached plum, black cherry and violet. The round, velvety and rich medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a youthfully austere, serious, compact and sneaky long finale. This potentially outstanding effort could use better depth so at least some patience should prove beneficial and 12 to 15 years would be better still.  (the 5+ ha Clos is composed of approximately 80% Peti

The 2021 Bussia Vigna Fantini is a deep, powerful wine. Dark cherry, spice, menthol and strong balsamic inflections all meld together. This especially virile, strapping Barolo packs a serious punch. Time in the glass brings out Bussia breadth as spiced, floral aromatics literally explode on the finish. This is a tremendous debut. I can see the Bussia Vigna Fantini joining the ranks of the very finest Barolos in this range. Drink 2028-2041Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 PointsThe Scavino f

Paolo Scavino Barolo ‘Prapò’ MAGNUM 2021

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2021 Barolo Prapò is fabulous. It offers up an exotic mix of dark fruit, lavender, graphite, plum and scorched earth, with firm, muscular Serralunga tannins to back it all up. Readers will have to be patient with the 2021. It's a superb wine in the making, but very much a Serralunga Barolo that needs time to blossom. The 2021 Barolo Ravera is captures all the signatures of this site. Iron, white pepper, sage, mint, chalk and red-toned fruit all grace this sculpted, vibrant young Barolo. I especialy admire its energy and tension. Clean mineral notes support the bracing finish. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2021 for at least a few years.
