The 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens has also turned out very well in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of plums, orange rind, peonies, exotic spices, loamy soil and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's rich and textural, with lively acids and an ample core of fruit framed by ripe, powdery tannins. It, too, is very expressive out of the gates, to the point that readers shouldn't be afraid to try one young.William Kelley, 95 PointsAnne Parent describes 'L

I had Faiveley's 2015 Latricières Chambertin recently, delicious, perfumed elegant and refined. Along with the 2015, I devoured a brace of 2016's from across the appellations. They are really stepping up their game, the investments in the vineyard and winery are a testament to this. The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is perfumed and elegant, soaring from the glass with scents of roses, peonies, orange rind and sweet red berries. Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Monprivato’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

This is the best Monprivato Sordo has made. So I need to go and pop the cork on a 2016 and 2015 ... just to make sure! Sordo's Monprivato has moved up the ladder a couple of rungs this year. The pedigree of this vineyard sees it sitting alongside Villero as one of the finest Barolo vineyards. At ½ the price of Giuseppe Mascarello’s this is exceptional value. An elegance yet intensity, the delicacy that is the hallmark of Monprivato when on song is here. Some would use the term Burgundian,

This is also suffering from post-bottling reduction so some air would be helpful if you're going to crack a bottle young. More interesting are the slightly sleeker middleweight flavors that also possess a seductive mouthfeel while delivering solid depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This should also repay up to a decade of keeping though unlike the Chenevottes, it's a wine that will need at least a few years of bottle aging first. Drink: 2029+Allen Meadows, Burghound 91 Points

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has impressive purity on the nose, with very well-defined scents of lemon, orange pith and apple blossom. The palate has a powerful, weighty opening. This has a lot of concentration, with tropical notes coming through toward the finish, though the previous vintage had a little more tension. Give this a couple of years in bottle to be tamed.Neal Martin, Vinous 89-91 PointsThe 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenev

Discreet wood influence sets off ripe and expressive aromas of petrol, acacia blossom and hazelnut. The bigger-bodied and more powerful medium weight flavors possess reasonably good mid-palate density while exhibiting a taut muscularity on the youthfully austere, firm and serious finale that also flirts with rusticity. This is classic Poruzots though one that should be approachable after only 5-ish years. Drink: 2030+ ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound 90-93 Points

Roagna Barolo Pira 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

On openning the Pira was all beefstock, savoury with a hint of reduction. Revisited with 15 hours in the glass. There you have it DJ Luca has been at it again. The fruit has come to the fore. The faded flowers so common with great wines from Castiglione Falleto are shining along with red fruit, orange and a hint of baking spice. It’s the shape, focus, mouthfeel and exceptional interplay between fruit of depth and length weighted beautifully against long even tannin matched to vibrant acid that

Sept 2023 It's always fascinating to read reviews of a wine on release a few years down the track with a glass of the wine in hand.Devoured over 2 nights. Generosity has built along with the depth Burghound was looking to develop over time.  Any oak that may have been present on release has melded seamlessly in.Graced by an entrancing perfume, a little baking spice and lemon curd amongst an array of ripe fruits. The mouthfeel caresses through the full length of a very long palate wit

The 2019 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colle Vota is intense, trading grace for power in this vintage, with a burst of dried black cherries, dusty sage, roses and Indian spice forming its bouquet. This splashes across the palate, spicy with ultra-ripe wild berry fruits that saturate, expertly balanced by a core of zesty acidity. The 2019 leaves a staining of primary concentration and grippy tannins, puckering the cheeks with youthful tension as salted licorice and balsamic spice notes fade. The 2019 C

Wildly fresh, the 2021 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Fonte Canale is impossible to ignore, with a vivid blend of fennel and minty herbs, stone dust, flint and crushed green apples. This flows across the palate with liquid florals and depths of lime-infused orchard fruits, taking on a distinctly salty sensation toward the close. A whiplash of minerality and zesty acidity enlivens the finale as the 2021 finishes with staining concentration yet still vibrant and chiseled. Fonte Canale remains the benchmark f

“The 2020 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colle Volta is a spice box on the nose, with wilted violets and hints of spiced-orange, white smoke, clove and dried black cherries. It's pleasantly sweet upon entry, with a cool toned feel and lavender-laced wild berry fruits that gain in tension and complexity as a flinty-mineral concentration forms toward the close. This resonates like liquid velvet, leaving sweet tannins offset by hints of sour citrus, finishing long and potent. The balance within is other
