Paolo Scavino Barolo ‘Prapò’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2021 Barolo Prapò is fabulous. It offers up an exotic mix of dark fruit, lavender, graphite, plum and scorched earth, with firm, muscular Serralunga tannins to back it all up. Readers will have to be patient with the 2021. It's a superb wine in the making, but very much a Serralunga Barolo that needs time to blossom. Drink 2028-2041Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 PointsHere is an intense Nebbiolo that shows all the depth and power of Serralunga d'Alba. The Paolo Scavino 2021 Barolo P

The 2021 Bussia Vigna Fantini is a deep, powerful wine. Dark cherry, spice, menthol and strong balsamic inflections all meld together. This especially virile, strapping Barolo packs a serious punch. Time in the glass brings out Bussia breadth as spiced, floral aromatics literally explode on the finish. This is a tremendous debut. I can see the Bussia Vigna Fantini joining the ranks of the very finest Barolos in this range. Drink 2028-2041Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 PointsThe Scavino f

This wine is from the ripest Smaragd classification.Thought to be the oldest documented vineyard, the name “Im Weingebirge”, Wine Mountains, dates back to the 5th Century. The wines from this vineyard are known to have impressive depth and minerality. The soil is varied with loess on the higher terraces and deep topsoil over primary rock lower down the slope. Toro Albalá Don PX Selección 200ml 1980

Pedro Ximénez | Spain, Montilla-Moriles

17% ABV. “The 1980 Don PX Selección is said to come from a warm and dry year that favored the raisining of the Pedro Ximénez grapes. This has lots of candied fruit and spice and combines the 17% alcohol with a whopping 340 grams of residual sugar. This aged in American oak butts until its bottling in September 2018. It surprised me with a complex and somewhat savory nose, reminiscent of bitter chocolate, licorice and roasted coffee, carob beans and black pepper. It's super concentrated, dens

A wonderfully spicy nose offers up its aromas of both red and dark raspberry, violet and soft floral nuances. There is once again a lovely texture along with fine detail to the more refined middle weight flavors that deliver very good persistence on the youthfully austere and slightly grippy finale. 2030+Allen Meadows, Burghound

E. Pira (Chiara Boschis) Barolo ‘Via Nuova’ 2020

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

This one’s an argument for blending sites! The Barolo Via Nuova is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Via Nuova opens to a little more dark fruit and ripe berry in this vintage. The wine is buttoned up from all sides into a tight little package of aromas. You get orange peel, bright cherry and a f

We really sense the aromatic freshness of the Chardonnay coming from its acidity and the minerality from its mainly mineral terroir. All nurtured by oak notes mainly from foudres in which this wine was vinified and matured. The Margoté plot is located to the South of the Rully appellation. This area is cold and windy. We can almost smell the wind while tasting this wine. The palate is powerful with a round and precise texture full of contained energy. The « mineral » finish is the terroir

Located to the north of the Premiers Crus de Rully hill, the vines here are cultivated on one of the warmest terroirs of Rully with a South, South-eastern exposure. This exposure translates itself with notes of white flowers, honey and fresh citrus fruits. On the palate, it is the energy coming from the alliance of the Chardonnay and the terroir of the Rabourcé which surprises, with an aromatic freshness enhanced on the finish by light bitter notes creating a beautiful expression of salin

The nose is refined, persistent and offering ethereal aromas of peach and mandarin, supported by an enjoyable oak presence. The palate is fresh and the definition of terroir becomes clearer as the tasting progresses. Rich flavours linked to aromas from Chardonnay, then you move to bitter skins associated with the bitterness from new barrels which render the wine very salivating. Bright and vibrant ruby colour. On the nose there is a seductive and aromatic bouquet shared between aromas of red fruits such as black cherry, raspberry and a finish of floral and spicy notes. The palate distinguishes itself with freshness nourished by a fully integrated acidity which reveals fruity and once again spicy flavours of this wine. The palate is silky and balanced thanks to ripe and fine tannins. They soften the palate and lengthen its sensation of rich and elegant texture. They n
