Pierre Péters Blanc de Blanc Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru MAGNUM NV
Insane flavour!
There's a purity & intensity about this wine that combined with the juicy acid is so so satisfying! The Côte des Blancs is home to all the great Chardonnay vineyards in Champagne. The Grand Cru vineyards are the best of these. When I worked at Legras et Haas, the Grand Cru Chardonnay was exceptional. I was blown away just tasting the juice. The quality of this wine reminds me of that oh so delicious juice!Péters' flagship Champagne is a blend of 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay spanning more than

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Tradition Base 17 1st Disgorgement NV
The Fizz Master at Work!
Egly easily sits in my list of top 5 Champagne Houses The top end of the Champgne spectrum is often perceived (due to a lot of marketing) to be the Super Cuvées like Dom Perignon and Krug. Don’t get me wrong these are great wines. The thing is when you get the chance and taste the top wines from Grower Champagne houses like Egly-Ouriet you find yourself taking things to an all new level. Their vineyards are immaculate, the fruit comes in with so much intensity you could happily drink the fini

Le Parc sits right on the other side of the wall of Clos du Mesnil! 100% Chardonnay from domaine vines planted in 1982. Le Parc is prime territory. The vineyard borders Krug’s uber-famous Clos d’Ambonnay and Selosse’s Le Bout du Clos. There is a thick (nearly 2 meter) clay and sandy loam layer of ‘tufa’ limestone on top of the chalky bedrock in Le Parc, which would suggest a powerful broad and round wine. Yet, Marguet’s version is sleek and saline with a strong chalk influence on the

The haunting flinty nose pulls you into this beautifully eccentric chardonnay that some lovers of this grape will find revolutionary. We say, vive la revolution! With aeration the citrusy aromas and energy expand. Then comes the incredibly racy palate which extends and extends in ways that seems to bend space-time with its elegance. SP 96 Points

Intensely smoky and flinty, also almost blindingly fresh, this is a dangerously chalky Champagne. The bergamot aroma expands dramatically as it aerates in the glass. Extremely concentrated Amalfi lemon character on the super-focused palate, building and building at the driving chalky finish that doesn't want to let go of you.  July 2023SP 98 Points

Agrapart Grand Cru Minéral Blanc de Blancs 2014
Pure & Precise!
If you think it's good now (hot tip 🔥IT IS) give it another 1-5 years in bottle and you'll see a 🦋emerge! The 2014 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Minéral is a powerful, intense Champagne that captures all of the natural power of these old vines in Avize and Cramant. Aptly named, the Minéral is infused with tremendous mineral and soil inflections that give a real feeling of gravitas. Crushed rocks, slate, chalk and citrus accents are some of the many nuances that emerge with a bit o

Agrapart Grand Cru Minéral Blanc de Blancs 2016
Pure & Precise!
If you think it's good now (hot tip 🔥IT IS) give it another 1-5 years in bottle and you'll see a 🦋emerge! This is typically the saltiest, most mineral wine in the Agrapart range. Like all the Agrapart wines the quality is remarkably consistent, with the only variation due to vintage. The 2016 spent just over five years on lees and was dosed at three grams per litre.“From Les Bionnes in Cramant (vinified in barrel) and Champbouton in Avize (vinified in tank), two parcels that shar

One of the greatest rosé wines of Champagne and a wine of haunting finesse. The blend is 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay with 60% coming from the great 2014 vintage and 40% vins de réserve (split almost equally between 2013 and 2012). Then there is the 5% of Egly’s Coteaux Champenois Rouge that gives the wine its colour and a great deal of character as well. Dosage is a negligible 3g/l. The fruit is from 100% Grand Cru vines, grown by one of the most meticulous vignerons of the region

Just a little oxy, at a lovely level. Beautifully settled. Excellent shape layering and build of complexity with lees, patisserie and toasty hazelnut. Expressive, generous, fresh citrus and pith. Nice textural phenolics. An excellent drink. Chalky saline acid. Green leafy herb. A cracking BdB“The 2017 Extra-Brut Cramant Grand Cru is a rich, textured wine. R.Pouillon ‘Les Terres Froides’ Premier Cru MAGNUM NV

Chardonnay | Montagne de Reims, Tauxières

Often in the 'Pro' wine circles, you're asked to nail your banner to a mast in a blind tasting. Although a Chardonnay, Fabrice has fooled, without malice, many a Champenois, who has called this wine a Pinot. It's not so much the flavours, but, the body, richness, and, mid-palate power that this wine offers that can confuse. In the end, all of this is irrelevant. What you have in front of you is a wine of purity, line, length, excellent acid, with lovely ripe flavours, a little pith and grapef

84 Months on Lees

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru V.P. Base 2015 NV

Blend | Verzenay, Ambonnay

V.P. = Viellissement Prolongé = Prolonged ageing on lees! The V.P. stands for Vieillissement Prolongé (prolonged ageing), as the wine spends so long on lees, in this case 84 months. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, the fruit comes from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay--all great Grand Cru terroirs. Vinification and élevage is in oak casks, with the dosage being a tiny 2g/l, so seriously Extra Brut. The power of the fruit, plus the extended lees ageing grants such harmony, so much
