Super expressive, elegant & complex. Nose is complete and intoxicating out of the gate (tasted form a bottle under Coravin for a month). Great drinking flow shape and expression. The tannin and flavour from the stalk work adds interest. Delicacy with refinement. Savoury with licorice and spice playing with  woody herbs, baking spice. Edge of grip that intrigues. Perfumed.  Vibrant with a wonderful core of fruit. Earthy, forest floor & truffles at play. A lot to love here. Paul Kaa

Forjas del Salnés 'Leirana - Finca Genoveva' Albariño 2021
150-200 Year Old Vines!
The Finca Genoveva is showing more complexity on the nose at this early stage in its life compared with the ‘A Telleira’, I suspect it won’t be long before they sit on par.Providing the definition of high-quality super fine acid. Like the ‘A Telleira’ the mouthfeel gently laces your tongue with a sheer delicacy. The scent Gutiérez describes is here, I’d add a little lanolin to the mix.It carries through to the palate, wrapping the core of intriguing flavours with those citru

Simply delicious. Ridiculous for the coin. Citrus oils & ripe lemon juice from the kind of lemon you’d eat like an orange.Gutiérrez comment on development is interesting. I’d add that this is development pre-bottling as a winemaking choice. An approach that for mine offers more complete wine that has seen valuable exposure to oxygen that only help fruit of this quality harmonise and build complexity.Yes, there is a hint of straw & lanolin. It wraps a vibrant, energetic cor

Enticing set of aromas & perfume showing their indigenous grape varieties and the complexity of the blend they offer. Beautiful mousse and fine textured phenolics harmonised by time on lees with excellent mid-palate weight. Phenolics are superb with a complex array of flavours, savoury, saline, earthy, a little rose. Almond and marzipan with a balancing, cleansing silvery bitterness. Beautifully balanced for 0g/l dose showing wonderful generosity of expression yet elegance. Woody herbs at pl

A lift in perfume. Build in overt whole bunch stalk and spice with a sappy nature. Lined up toward Grenache a little more. A delicacy with a finely weighted palate. Refreshing and thirst-quenching, it draws you in. The palate is much more complete than the nose at the moment. I expect the whole bunch nose to resolve over the coming year to deliver a special wine.Paul Kaan, Wine DecocdedCésar's 2023 El Rapolao was sourced from a centenary plot in the coldest part of the village, wher

Savoury, earthy, bolder, slightly richer iteration, admittedly starting from an elegant base across the range. Ripper more even tannin profiles still showing the whole bunch factor that will need time to settle. More expressive yet still needing a few years to settle. Raspberry liquorice. Layers of perfume. Paul Kaan, Wine DecocdedThe 2023 Pico Ferreira comes from a lieu-dit in the village of Corullón, a northwest-facing, shady slope planted with centenary vines on slate soils. It

Just a little lift on a red fruit framework, super fine acid sitting on a youthful sharp side of the balance equation that will definitely fall into place nicely in time or with something tasty to eat in its youth. Ripe tannins and the most integrated whole bunch character of all the wines at the time of tasting. Savoury, juby, lick of plums, spice. Long even and flowing. Forjas del Salnés 'Leirana - Finca Genoveva' Albariño 2022
150-200 Year Old Vines!
The 2022 Leirana Finca Genoveva shows very complete, combining power and elegance, volume and length, roundness and freshness, with good ripeness, slightly higher alcohol (12.9%) and amazing freshness and acidity parameters (pH 3.12 and 8.08 grams of acidity). It should be long lived in bottle.Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate 96+ PointsExcellent! Long & fine with incredible mid-palate weight. Precise, saline & poised. Guímaro’s wines draw you in. At this level, they move well beyond and above the playful, juby, joven styles. Complex, savoury, layered with sophisticated tannins all of Guímaro's top wines show a deft hand in élévage to elicit the personality of the fruit from which they are made. There's a build in weight and richness here over the Miño river sibling to this wine. The San Pedro has a beautiful acid balance. Savoury salami, spiced, energy and freshness, super complex. Harmonise

The 2022 Goliardo A Telleira shows lots of finesse. They changed the élevage here to 1,500-litre foudre, which they think works better for Albariño than barrels, no matter how big they are, and this wine clearly shows it. It has the finesse of the sandy soils and a polished texture (a little more sleek, a bit à la Chenin) but still lively and with pungent flavors.Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate 95+ PointsMy Note on the 2021: Simply delicious. Fascinating! Savoury licorice root and lanolin. Incredible intensity. So beautifully weighted, flowing & rich yet transparent. Beautifully integrated acid. Musk roses. Entrancing wine. Such presence yet delicacy. Very very good, such complexity and energy in the fruit.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The 2021 Fogar Do Castriño is a characterful and unusual Albariño that matured in a used chestnut barrel for 24 months and a further 15 months in bottle. The 2020 Fogar Do Castriño feels more civilized, matured in a used chestnut barrel, and the notes from the wood feel subtler than in the 2019 when they had to use a new barrel. After the good experience with A Graña, they went for a chestnut barrel that they feel marks less than the oak and respects more the character of the Albariño grape. This feels balanced and vibrant, with pungent acidity and marked flavors, citrus freshness and great length. This is one of the wines that shows the ver
