Referring to the sugar content in a finished wine. A dry wine by definition has no fermentable sugar left. The winemaking definition of dry is less than 2g/L of residual sugar. Known as Trocken in Germany or Sec in France. It should be noted that wines labelled with the German synonym trocken often still have a few grams of residual sugar left in them to balance the higher acidity of the wines.

This is also slightly reduced and it's enough to render the nose difficult to assess. The medium-bodied flavors are both more powerful and concentrated though at the expense of less refinement and minerality on the driving and impressively persistent finish. This will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range but the underlying material appears to be present so that this can eventually happen. All of the Riservas in this vintage are characterized by especially exuberant and bold aromas, and this bottle is a prime example. Cassis, wild cherry, tobacco, rusty nail and licorice build intensity.
