A French term also used in other countries, referring to a vineyard completely surrounded by a wall, typically made of stone. Clos Vougeot is the largest of these in Burgundy. Clos d’Ambonnay owned by Krug, Clos Saint Hilaire by Billiecart in Champagne, and, Clos Sainte Hune owned by Trimbach in Alsace are just a few examples.

A Clos can be incredibly small, I’ve seen several in Burgundy that are literally the backyard of a house!

Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2018

Nebbiolo | La Morra, Italy

The 2018 Barolo Brunate is a deep, layered wine that is going to need at least a few years to come together. Today, the Brunate is quite primary and backward, but all the ingredients are there. Sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers and spice build with a bit of coaxing. Drink 2028 - 2048 Galloni

The Gattinara Riserva has an entrancing set of aromas and flavours, dark fruits, woody herbs, a little savoury and truffly with a top note perfume to round it out. Faiveley is definitely a Domaine on the Ascention The 2022 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley is also a real success, unfurling in the glass with rich aromas of cherries, berries, peonies, licorice and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated palate that’s cool and stony, with a tightly wound core framed by sweet but chalky tannins. This will be long lived.William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 94-96 BH 93-95 JM 94-96 NM 94-96
