A French term also used in other countries, referring to a vineyard completely surrounded by a wall, typically made of stone. Clos Vougeot is the largest of these in Burgundy. Clos d’Ambonnay owned by Krug, Clos Saint Hilaire by Billiecart in Champagne, and, Clos Sainte Hune owned by Trimbach in Alsace are just a few examples.

A Clos can be incredibly small, I’ve seen several in Burgundy that are literally the backyard of a house!

Feeling Thirsty?

Showing exactly how important vine age is! A step up, an extra zip of salty acid and that mid palate weight with excellent length. Florals, white stone fruit a little citrus pith and plenty of fun. That slight primary edge that disappeared as it opened revealing excellent depth and length with restraint. A little more complexity. Mid palate texture is excellent. Hazelnuts and an extra layer of pleasure here. Excellent.

R.H.Coutier Ambonnay Cuvée Tradition Grand Cru NV

Blend | Montagne de Reims, Ambonnay

Coutier is to Ambonnay what Clouet is to Bouzy! Coutier is to Ambonnay what Clouet is to Bouzy! Two villages just around the corner from each other. Two makers dishing out some seriously tasty vino. Ambonnay is the home to so many great vineyards. Judging by the vino Coutier is playing with the best of them. Their NV along with Clouet’s would have to rate as two of the best value Champagnes at the mo. The Brut tradition is 25-40% Chardonnay 60-75% Pinot in any given release and around 40% r

Wendouree Malbec 2011

Malbec | South Australia, Australia

AP Birks Wendouree Cellars produce some of the very few wines I’ll buy without tasting! The wines are something special. A celebration of an incredible old vineyard with plantings from the late 1800s. Tony & Lita are custodians of something truly special! Central vineyard planted in 1898. The Malbec is the best I've ever had from Australia. Malbec is a fickle variety that is a case of feast or famine. When flowering is poor so little fruit is realised that you can barely make a wine
Velvety, Precise!

Paolo Scavino Barolo ‘Movigliero’ 2013

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Italy

Such focused & precise fruit with a lovely ripeness of plums, flowers & light hazelnuts. Full-bodied, velvety & polished. Very pretty finish. This Barolo comes from the homonymous vineyard of Monvigliero that can be properly considered the “grand cru” of Verduno village. This cru was first vinified in 2000 vintage and blended intothe Barolo until the 2007 vintage when this vineyard has been bought by the Scavino family and made as a single cru. Great finesse and aromatic complexity, dist
