A French term also used in other countries, referring to a vineyard completely surrounded by a wall, typically made of stone. Clos Vougeot is the largest of these in Burgundy. Clos d’Ambonnay owned by Krug, Clos Saint Hilaire by Billiecart in Champagne, and, Clos Sainte Hune owned by Trimbach in Alsace are just a few examples.

A Clos can be incredibly small, I’ve seen several in Burgundy that are literally the backyard of a house!

Giovanni Canonica Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

The hot tip for the Langhe Nebbiolo give it a year or two in bottle before you crack into it. It will be tightly wound when young and take that time to reveal itself. Looking forward to trying Canonica's.

There are 2 vineyards that are talked of when the best of Pommard is discussed. Les Épenots and Les Rugiens. It’s clear tasting Thierry's interpretations of these vineyards that there is merit in those discussion.WOW! This is very good. Seriously good. A build in tannin weight over La Platiere with extra layers, a gentle sweep

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle is more mineral but also more concentrated than the En Ergot bottling. Bursting with notes of rose petals, raspberries and baking chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and refined, with an intense core of fruit, lively acids and polished tannins, concluding with a saline finish.William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92-94 PointsA more perfumed and more elegant nose consists mostly of cool red berries and a plethora of spice and fl
The 2020 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly in bottle, mingling aromas of dark berries, cherries and cassis with notions of licorice and exotic spices in an incipiently complex bouquet. Full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, it's deep and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, penetrating finish.William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 96 Points BH 96 NM 96-98
