Valmaggiore

My two favourite Neb's from Sandrone came from the polar opposites of the price spectrum. The Valmaggiore at under a $100 is around 1/10th the price of the Vite Talin, Sandrone's super cuvée.Sandrone’s Valmaggiore is a different expression of Nebbiolo to those from the nearby Barolo and Barbaresco. Superb. Elegance and restraint with intensity and depth. Delicate super fine tannins gently dust the palate with a gentle grip. Sour red cherry perfectly supported by a beautifully weighted co

Le Vigne

Luciano Sandrone Barolo ‘Le Vigne’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo (sub-region)

Bugger! The investors are onto it! An excellent Le Vigne. The restraint in oak use is clever, discrete, just a beuatiful layer. Going back to the 2013 the wood was more overt on release. Today the 2013’s are fully resolved and wonderfully layered. The 2019 is complex, refined & elegant, with vibrant fruit & faded flowerst. A delicacy with great density of fruit. Remaining refreshing. The heart shape of Novello, the faded flowers of Villero the combination of tannin profiles making f

Aleste

Classic Cannubi! Savoury, dark & a little broody, just starting to settle. Intrigue and personality on show. Delicacy of expression on the nose. A little licorice, slate and graphite. A powerful palate. Aggression of tannins in a good way that will take time to resolve. Sour cherry and fine acid. An excellent Aleste with all the hallmarks of quality Cannubi.Aleste is a contraction of the names Alessia and Stefano, grandchildren of the late Luciano Sandrone. With fruit from Cannubi Bo

The Story of 'Vite Talon'

There are some perks to the job! Got to try the newest edition to Sandrone's list of Barolo, the Riserva 'Vite Talin'. 30 years in the making and it's quite some wine! Such a special wine. Unforuntately, there was not an opportunity to try the 2015. It's a Barolo vintage I am fond of. Reviews are below. My notes of the 2013: Intoxicating nose. Such a complete perfume, the incredible core of fruit is wrapped in truffles, earth & forest floor. The richness, depth, and, length a matched
