Grüner Vetliner

Well this had me thinking of the Nikolaihof’s 2013 Baumepresse Grüner. The refinement, development with freshness, harmony with subtlety and sense of togetherness from a clever élévage.Pretty, perfumed, musk and white flower on citrus oils. A complete palate, flowing, long and fine with transparency and beautifully weighted flavours, gently spiced with a leafy green herb and a fine earthiness. Dry with fine acid. The phenolics here are refined and layered. A ripping example of Grü

Grüner Vetliner | Wachau, Austria

Thought to be the oldest documented vineyard, the name “Im Weingebirge”, Wine Mountains, dates back to the 5th Century. The wines from this vineyard are known to have impressive depth and minerality. The soil is varied with loess on the higher terraces and deep topsoil over primary rock lower down the slope. The wine ages on its lees in old barrels, giving it a creamy texture to match the fruit and Grüner spice.**REVIEW OF THE 2020** Previously called Im Weingebirge, the 2020 Gr

Grüner Vetliner | Wachau, Austria

Sourced from many different vineyards near Mautern, the Grüner Veltliner Hefeabzug is Nikolaus Saahs’ “Steinfeder” class.Named after the aging process on light lees. The lightest Grüner Veltliner is a perfect aperitif wine. Fresh and expressive. The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Hefeabzug is very clear and bright in color and flavors, with refreshing lime and lemon zest aromas, great precision, definition and finesse. Quite substantial on the palate, this is a textural, intense,

Weingut Geyerhof Grüner Veltliner Grosse Reserve 2015

Grüner Vetliner | Niederösterreich, Austria

My immediate thought was Nikolaihof! Such an incredible, complete wine. Delicious, laryered, playful. Ripe phenolics, wonderful texture and flow. Insane uber ripe lemon and florals.Another cracking example of long aging Austrian whites in barrel. 6 ½ years on lees in large old acacia yielding refinement and development with incredible energy.Ridiculous for the coin! The 2015 Grüner Veltliner Grosse Reserve spent 6.5 years on gross lees in a 2,000-liter acacia barrel. The nose b

Weingut Nikolaihof Baumpresse Riesling 2015

Grüner Vetliner | Wachau, Austria

"The 2015 Riesling Baumpresse was pressed in the historic press operated by a single oak beam. It was bottled in 2020 and released in spring 2023. Waxiness hits the nost first, followed by dried lemon peel and zest. The palate is super-smooth, with evolution that presents an intense waxiness, almost an oiliness, propelled by lemony intensity. Glints of ripe apricot shimmer, but the palate returns to its golden mean of dried lemon peel. The contrast between rich flavour and slender palate is min

Pressed with the 350-year-old wooden press and aged for 18 months in traditional oak, the intensely citrus-colored 2012 Im Weingebirge Riesling Baumpresse opens with a beautiful nose of deep, elegant and finessed Riesling flavors intermixed with marjoram aromas. What great finesse, elegance and purity! On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich but pure and elegant, highly finessed and salty Riesling with great complexity, tension and finesse. It has a firm but still filigreed structure and very
