This manages to be at once ripe yet cool with its layered combination of black cherry, plum and just turned earth and humus nuances. There is notably better density and volume to the bigger-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the firm, moderately austere and sneaky long finish. This by contrast is going to need at least a few years of keeping first. 2032+ ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound (90-92) Points JM 94It hard to talk about Nuits-Saint-Georges without

Luigi Pira Barolo ‘Vigna Rionda’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Italy

In recent times, Vigna Rionda gets spoken about as the grand cru of the Langhe – altitude, exposure and soil profile play an integral part. As expected, this is Giampaolo’s flagship wine. The oak regime is similar to the ‘Marenca’ but with a larger portion of newer oak – around 30%. Ultra-powerful and layered in fragrances, flavours and textures. Smoke, graphite, incense, stock/porcini, sweet tobacco, violets. All this character is underpinned by a fierce, tingling acid line and a comp

An equally restrained nose combines both upper and lower register elements that include red cherry and pomegranate with those of plum, earth and forest floor. There is notably better concentration, power and punch to the broad-shouldered flavors that possess evident muscularity and minerality on the compact and serious finale that delivers sneaky good length. A Gevrey 1er of relative refinement. ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows

Benjamin Leroux Pommard 2020
Pommad - From the Pommard Master!

Benjamin Leroux Pommard 2020

Pinot Noir | Pommard, Côte du Beaune

Given his experience in Pommard, home turf, if he'll have handle on any fruit this will be it! As with last year, this is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. Leroux notes the cooler, hillside fruit from Les Vaumuriens brings freshness and balance to the blend. This was crafted from 100% de-stemmed berries and raised with roughly 20% new oak. We have very little.“The village Pommard is a suc

Moderate wood and menthol can be found on the aromas of violet, red currant and plum. There is excellent density to the velvety and sappy textured flavors that manage to maintain very good precision on the overtly stony, powerful and youthfully austere finale. As is typical for this wine, it’s going to need every bit of a decade to reach its apogee. Drink 2031+Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 Points ♥ Outstanding

Oddero Barolo ‘Villero’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

One of my favourite Crus.Take the Barolo add 3 more layers for aroma, flavour and tannin. Ramp up the sophistication of the mouthfeel and you're kinda close to where the Villero sits. Awesome side by side with Sordo's Villero. Different in style. Both fantastic wines, you can see the common thread through the two. With fruit from Castiglione Falletto, the 2019 Barolo Villero is graceful and light with a beautifully silky approach to the palate. It is pleasing to the eye, thanks to the

Artuke ‘La Condenada’ Rioja Tinto 2022

Red Blend | Spain, Alavesa

Trying 2021 ‘La Conenada’s’ brother 'El Escolladero'  along with a few other wines from the Artuke range was enough to convince me to grab a couple of boxes. I've not looked back. The 2022 'La Condenada is a little more tightly coiled with a chalky acid profile needing time to resolve. Excellent transparency through an elegant fruit profile of fine red fruits with sold depth and length. Opening in the glass beautifully, building mid-palate weight and length with a fantail finish. Stunning. Beautiful perfume such a divine fragrance that leaps out of the glass. Excellent energy. Zesty fine acid, the texture here is exceptional. There is often a misconception that wines from Pommard are brutish, structured and will need decoded to even be approachable. Like most things in life, mass generalisation does no one any favours. Although this undoubtedly has much much more to give with time it is divine with super fine tannins now!Layered and complex with perfumed persistant f

Incredibly together, sophisticated and elegant this has such harmony. Wonderful refinement even long palate. Baking spice on red fruit with a touch of slatey tannin. Beautiful, it draws you in, so much coming out as it opens in the glass. Roses and perfume layered in with savoury pops and earthiness. Beautifully played oak again just a gently sweep across the palate.Divine Wine!

Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Trilogie’ 2020

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy

I first tried Hubert Lignier's wines back in the 1990's & have never looked back! Offering up aromas of cassis, red berries, warm spices and loamy soil, the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep and youthfully tightly wound core of fruit that's framed by lively acids and powdery tannins. This is likely to emerge as Lignier's finest communal-level bottling this year, but it will also require the most patience.William Kelley, The Wine A
