Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Le Secret des Sabon’ 2019

Rhône Blend | Châteauneuf du Pape, France

“The tiny production 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Secret Des Sabon is a field blend of mostly Grenache brought up all in wooden tronconique barrels. It's closest in style to the Prestige Cuvée yet brings another level of opulence and richness without losing any sense of elegance or class. Blackberries, peppery herbs, graphite, crushed violets, and a liquid rock-like minerality all define the nose, and it hits the palate with incredible depth of fruit, full-bodied richness, and ripe yet buildi

Domaine Didier Dagueneau Silex VDF 2022

Sauvignon Blanc | Pouilly-Fumé, Centre Loire

“The 2022 Silex is not a lot of fun upon release; dry and tense, it really needs time to mellow. There's flesh from the clay element of its clay-flint soils, which is felt on entry but tightens up as it moves through the mouth. This remains a wine of drive, firmness and upright structure; it speaks of the place it comes from rather than its variety. Aromatics are almost a forgotten element; this is a wine about structure and texture. There is a lemony, wild goat cheese-like note and a distinct

Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines LC23
Limit 2 per Person
“Today there are a handful of wines from elite, artisanal grower-estates in Champagne that have attracted a nearly cult-like following. One of the most sought-after of these is the meunier of Jérôme Prévost.” Liem Again, this is 2023 base with 20% reserve wine. Prévost’s 2.2-hectare vineyard, Les Béguines, is in Gueux, 10km west of Reims in the north of Champagne. The soil here is a layer cake of calcareous (Thanetian) sand over clay, over more calcareous sand. Inherited from Jér

Weber noted that they protected the vines with warming pots that allowed for a yield of about 22 hl/ha. More obvious oak influence stops short of fighting with the spicy and earthy purple fruit-scented nose. There is notably more density, power and volume to the bigger-bodied flavors that possess a seductive mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the robust but not rustic finale that delivers markedly better depth and persistence. 2029+ Sweet spot Outstanding ♥Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-9

Giovanni Sordo Barolo Riserva 'Gabutti' MAGNUM 2008
The Bold!

Giovanni Sordo Barolo Riserva ‘Gabutti’ MAGNUM 2008

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2008 Riserva we see the parallels with the 2015. The long structure is there, the complexity has built further, the wine is now fully comfortable wearing it's own skin, having resolved and built generosity. Of the 2015 it was clear that there was no chance to mistake the Gabutti, with its abundance of darker things; stock, porcini, graphite, smoke and black cherry. Under this very typical Serralunga ‘tarry/earthy’ mantle though, are other complexities of dried roses, orange and spices. T

Massolino “Albesani” Barbaresco MAGNUM 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

On the western hills above Neive, Albesani is one of the great vineyards of Barbaresco. In his “Barbaresco MGA”, Alessandro Masnaghetti writes that “the combination of soil, stature and exposure creates one of the greatest vineyards of the Langhe”. So perhaps it won’t be a surprise that, of the three Barbaresco parcels, Massolino has chosen to bottle its first single-vineyard wine from this site. As Franco Massolino explains: “From the very first moment this wine began to ferment, we

A more deeply pitched nose combines notes of poached plum and exotic tea with those of violet, lilac and a suggestion of wood. The richer and more voluminous flavors possess more evident power if not the same refinement on the more structured finale. This is also nicely balanced but in contrast to the Groseilles, it’s not likely to drink especially well before 8 to 10 years have passed. This one’s an argument for blending sites! The Barolo Via Nuova is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Via Nuova opens to a little more dark fruit and ripe berry in this vintage. The wine is buttoned up from all sides into a tight little package of aromas. Excellent development, the time on lees shows. Generous and developed with super zippy acid, delicious drinking now. Pinot shining with chardonnay linearity and chalkiness adding backbone. Super creamy lees action. A powerful core of fruit yet with a restraint. Chalky and saline. Layered and complex. This is very good. Gentle aldehyde offering nuttiness and intrigue.“The 2014 Extra-Brut Ay Grand Cru bristles with tension. It’s a great choice for readers who enjoy focused Champagnes.

"Discreet but perceptible wood frames the ripe essence of plum, red and dark cherry, violet and a touch of violet. There is equally good energy to the suave, round and richer medium-bodied flavors that possess a sophisticated mouthfeel thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the serious, firm, and firmly austere, finale. Patience advised. ♥ Drink: 2031+"Allen Meadows, Burghound

Background hints of wood can be found on the ripe and nicely fresh aromas of poached plum, black cherry and violet. The round, velvety and rich medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a youthfully austere, serious, compact and sneaky long finale. This potentially outstanding effort could use better depth so at least some patience should prove beneficial and 12 to 15 years would be better still.  (the 5+ ha Clos is composed of approximately 80% Peti

The 2021 Bussia Vigna Fantini is a deep, powerful wine. Dark cherry, spice, menthol and strong balsamic inflections all meld together. This especially virile, strapping Barolo packs a serious punch. Time in the glass brings out Bussia breadth as spiced, floral aromatics literally explode on the finish. This is a tremendous debut. I can see the Bussia Vigna Fantini joining the ranks of the very finest Barolos in this range. Drink 2028-2041Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 PointsThe Scavino f
