The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a powerhouse. My impression is that the 2017 is going to develop into something truly special. It has all the energy that makes this site so distinctive, but with an extra kick of fruit density and a whole range of exotic aromatics that make for a truly drop dead gorgeous wine. Vietti's 2017 Barolo Lazzarito is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever the challenges of the growing season, they appear to have been no problem here. One of the greatest rosé wines of Champagne and a wine of haunting finesse. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with 50% from the 2019 vintage and the reserve wines split between 2018 and 2017. The dosage is a negligible 1 g/L. Excellent generosity, savoury with a rich core of perfumed fruit and fine, elegant tannin. Mostly sand in the vineyards of Bussia here. Plush, blood red fruit mix with a pinch of baking spice. Chocolatey fanning out generously. Only 13 times since 1978. Consistency of weather throughout the year the key. A welcoming wine with great finesse. It's a demonstration of just how different the terroirs of Monforte are, justifying the work being done to break it down into a more granular set of MGAs.
