Le Baroncole is made from 97% Sangiovese and 3% Canaiolo grapes. The initial stages of its production are the same as Chianti Classico but it is then aged in barriques for between 16 to 20 months, bottled unfiltered and held for a further six months prior to release. The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baroncole is packed with dark red cherry/plum fruit, new leather, cedar, blood orange and spice. Dense and layered, with superb depth, the 2022 is endowed with real structure. The oak, so

I've been watching Kientzler over the last decade now and have seen them consistently produce excellent wines from the Lieu Dit Muhlforst and the Grand Cru vineyards of Osterberg, Geisberg and Schoenenbourg.Sherbety, superfine, exceptional intensity, long fine harmonious & seamless. Draws you in. Incredibly long & lingering, citrus, fine green apple. Shape & flow is insane. Love this. Earthy and savoury with a little shroomy funk coming through very, very good.Given the typic

The 2023 Bouzeron has a vivacious nose that boldly declares, "I am Aligoté!" The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity and beautiful weight in the mouth, featuring hints of lemon curd, white peach and Anjou pear toward the poised finish. You'll find few Bouzerons better than this. Neal Martin, Vinous 91 PointsVery ethereal, both citrus and floral, our Bouzeron 2023 offers notes of white-fleshed fruits on the palate. The traditional acidity from the Aligoté grape is cri

JM Sélèque Solessence Nature (2015) NV

Champagne | France, Champagne

Brut Nature wines by default have nothing to hide behind so the fruit has to do the talking ... JM's is positively SHOUTING! Excellent purity. Singular, refined. Superb love the line and length with excellent harmony. Pithy, layered, red berries. Excellent secondary development. Although the call is that this is the standard Solessence with no dose, it clearly is not. For a start it's the base vintage is 4 years older, & it has been disgorged for almost 2 years. I can't understate just how m

Wagner-Stempel Riesling Heerkretz 2017

Riesling | Rheinhessen, Germany

White peach, apple and lime are accented by their pits and pits as well as by raw almond on an enticing nose highly reminiscent of that exhibited by the corresponding 2016. Scents of Ceylon tea and spring beauty (Claytonia) add inner-mouth allure. The feel is flatteringly silken, notwithstanding the persistence of stimulating piquancy. Infectious juiciness, along with an invigoratingly tactile, active sense of crystalline stony impingement, dramatically sets this wine’s vibrant, bell-clear fin

The latest Contrada from Terre Nere! Complex aromas of ripe berries with toffee, cedar and some floral undertones. Hot ash as well. The palate is full-bodied, but tight and linear with a chewy palate and lots of dried-peach and orange-peel undertones to the ripe fruit, but always linear and focused. Try after 2022.Suckling

The Feudo di Mezzo from Terre Nere has more immediate generosity. Showing more of itself earlier than higher vineyards of Santo Spirito and Guardiola The purity of fruit and brightness is very impressive with blackberry, cherry and walnut undertones. It’s full, very tight and complete with really fine, polished tannins and a beautiful, long finish. Really balanced. Drink or hold.SucklingFeudo di Mezzo is a larger Contrada, sub-plots within it are important to recognise. One day I'll ge

Terre Nere Santo Spirito Etna Rosso D.O.C. 2018

Sophistication, perfectly ripe yet not over ripe fruit. Very much in the mould of the Guardiola and Rampante Contrada! A tight, linear red, showing cherry, watermelon and orange-peel aromas with hints of violets. It’s medium-bodied with a solid center palate and a racy finish. Drink or hold.Suckling

Domenico Clerico Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

A massive surprise, the oak is no longer the dominant feature of the Clerico wines. Hoo fucken’ ray! We have balance! I can see fruit, I can see the Commune and I can happily swallow the beverage and want to go back for another sniff. I couldn’t even say that about the 2016’s. So what’s going on? Domenico did so much to help revitalise Barolo, it would however be fair to say that after the early revolution, evolution was very slow. The wines often dominated by overt oak and tough tannins
