Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis 2019

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy

I first tried Hubert Lignier's wines back in the 1990's & have never looked back! Lignier is one of the latest to release their wines. The extra year really makes a difference as the wines resolve and come together. The Morey-Saint-Denis has the hallmark red fruit of the village. The depth and length are exceptional, what really makes this wine are the wonderfully refined texture, purity and vitality. It charms and entices you as the aromas with some background florals and spice lift from the

The first time we’ve managed to squeeze out an allocation of ‘San Francesco’ Saint Francesco. We are very happy!Stepping up to the two single vineyards the depth and length build. Darker and brooding, a slight reductive note washes away to reveal a savoury, truffled layer over those woody herbs. Slatey with mineral acids, sitting marginally prouder than in the other 2 Riservas and tannins of balanced grip. Finishing with lingering fruit.Given a decade the acid resolves this will

A ripe, airy and cool mix consists mainly of red and dark raspberry, anise and an equally pretty mix of floral elements. There is both excellent volume and vibrancy to the sappy, powerful and muscular larger-scaled flavors that brim with minerality on the serious, long and built-to-age finale. Patience absolutely recommended.Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-93 Points ♥ Outstanding

Artuke ‘La Condenada’ Rioja Tinto 2021

Red Blend | Spain, Alavesa

Trying ‘La Conenada’s’ brother 'El Escolladero'  along with a few other wines from the Artuke range was enough to convince me to grab a couple of boxes.Well it's arrived, and I can see why it is one of the Artuke's two crown jewels! The palate has exceptional shape and flow, yes it is precise! The acid ~ tannin ~ fruit ~ alcohol complex sits in perfect harmony. As with the El Escolladero there is just a little edge of grip to the mouthfeel, again in a cleansing positive way. Opening

This manages to be at once ripe yet cool with its layered combination of black cherry, plum and just turned earth and humus nuances. There is notably better density and volume to the bigger-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the firm, moderately austere and sneaky long finish. This by contrast is going to need at least a few years of keeping first. 2032+ ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound (90-92) Points JM 94It hard to talk about Nuits-Saint-Georges without

R.Pouillon 'Les Chataignieres' Extra Brut 2015

R.Pouillon ‘Les Chataignieres’ Extra Brut 2015

Blend | Vallée de la Marne, Champagne

Hanging to do a side by side with Pouillon's Meunier and Prévost's. To excellent makers two different styles! 100% Pinot Meunier from a site in Fesigny. My Note from the 2012:Like all of Pouillon's wines, this is superb. Fine, delicious, so together with incredible harmony. Not as Oxy as Prévost's, it still has an oxidative note. The core of fruit is there, easily carrying it. Excellent vinosity, pure, fine, long red berry fruits. The texture dances across your palate. Beautifully lay

Domaine Marcel Deiss Grand Cru 'Schoenenbourg' 2012
OFF-DRY
Grand Cru action from Deiss! A blend of 12 Alsatian Varieties! Bright, deep yellow. Ripe, vibrant aromas of white peach, lemon zest, chamomile and balsamic herb are complicated by lemony botrytis. Silky on entry, then round and fresh in the middle, with terrific lemony cut providing excellent energy. Really resonates on the floral, saline, tactile back end, leaving the taste buds vibrating under a lemon meringue and peach sheen. In terms of richness this seems to fall between the Mambourg and th

Luigi Pira Barolo ‘Vigna Rionda’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Italy

In recent times, Vigna Rionda gets spoken about as the grand cru of the Langhe – altitude, exposure and soil profile play an integral part. As expected, this is Giampaolo’s flagship wine. The oak regime is similar to the ‘Marenca’ but with a larger portion of newer oak – around 30%. Ultra-powerful and layered in fragrances, flavours and textures. Smoke, graphite, incense, stock/porcini, sweet tobacco, violets. All this character is underpinned by a fierce, tingling acid line and a comp

An equally restrained nose combines both upper and lower register elements that include red cherry and pomegranate with those of plum, earth and forest floor. There is notably better concentration, power and punch to the broad-shouldered flavors that possess evident muscularity and minerality on the compact and serious finale that delivers sneaky good length. Moderate wood and menthol can be found on the aromas of violet, red currant and plum. There is excellent density to the velvety and sappy textured flavors that manage to maintain very good precision on the overtly stony, powerful and youthfully austere finale. As is typical for this wine, it’s going to need every bit of a decade to reach its apogee. Drink 2031+Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 Points ♥ Outstanding

Oddero Barolo ‘Villero’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

One of my favourite Crus.Take the Barolo add 3 more layers for aroma, flavour and tannin. Ramp up the sophistication of the mouthfeel and you're kinda close to where the Villero sits. Awesome side by side with Sordo's Villero. Different in style. Both fantastic wines, you can see the common thread through the two. With fruit from Castiglione Falletto, the 2019 Barolo Villero is graceful and light with a beautifully silky approach to the palate. It is pleasing to the eye, thanks to the
