Giuseppe Rinaldi Rosae 2023

Ruché | Piedmont, Barolo

Well here's a fascinating drink! I've not had a Ruchè AKA Ruchet AKA Rouchet AKA Moscatellina before. I wonder how Rinaldi ended up with this in the mix and the history of the vineyard. The synonym Moscatellina is perhaps the one that first drew my gaze when smelling this. It does have some Muscat like aromas, I almost felt like I was smelling a pretty decent bitters. Galloni is on the mark with his discription. Before trying it myself I though perhaps he was having a Rinaldi Fan Boy moment.

Bruno Giacosa Dolcetto d’Alba Falletto 2023

Dolcetto | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Unlike the Barbera d’Alba ‘Falletto’, the Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Falletto’ does not come from the true Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba vineyard but from the North-facing vineyards surrounding it. These sites came as part of the acquisition of Falletto in the 1980’s and were already planted to Dolcetto. Being from the poor helvetian soil of Serralunga d’Alba, the Dolcetto ‘Falletto’ is an impressively structured wine with plentiful tannin and a darker fruit profile. Many of B

Boldest, most immediately generous of this set of 2022's. Red and blue fruited. Carries through to the palate. Building in the glass. Friendly, so easy to drink. Deceptively, less cerebral than the Pico. Great transparency. Seamless and plenty of fun.Paul Kaan, Wine DecocdedI love the elegant, floral and nuanced nose of the 2022 El Rapolao, sourced from a plot in the coldest part of the village, where the soils are rich in iron and organic matter. It fermented with 25% full clusters

Super expressive, elegant & complex. Nose is complete and intoxicating out of the gate (tasted form a bottle under Coravin for a month). Great drinking flow shape and expression. The tannin and flavour from the stalk work adds interest. Delicacy with refinement. Savoury with licorice and spice playing with  woody herbs, baking spice. Edge of grip that intrigues. Perfumed.  Vibrant with a wonderful core of fruit. Earthy, forest floor & truffles at play. A lot to love here. Paul Kaa

The 2022 was MIND BOGGLING! Only 6 bottles up for grabs! The 2023 A Graña comes from a vineyard in the parish of Adina, and it has a different personality, not only because of its lower alcohol level (11.7%), contained ripeness and higher acidity but because it fermented and matured in a chestnut barrel (and 200 liters in stainless steel), kept with lees for nine months. The nose has a different profile, spicy and with notes of ... chestnut flowers?, with a slightly wild/rustic edge t

Château Pierre-Bise Savennières ‘Roche aux Moines’ 2020

Chenin Blanc | Savennières, D'Anjou-Saumur

Wine of personality keep on coming from Savennieres. Lythe, transparent fruit. Dry with pear, baking spice and candied citrus peel. Somehow they have managed to combine a weightless feel with the depth of fruit,a little phenolics and glycerol making for a luscious caress of the tongue. A fine wine that as with all dry Chenin will need a couple of years to start expressing itself in full. I can see why the 2018 managed to score 1 of just 50 wines in show out of almost 19,000 at Decanters 2021 Awa

Pretty, fine, long, textured & rich. Quince fruit with lovely caressing phenolics & a refreshing finish. A faint lick of green leafy herbs chervil or tarragon. Fine, a lovely pithy finish cleansing with a little bitterness. Wild ferment in 1200 stockingers 600 barrels. Fresh & thirst-quenching. Opened beautifully in the glass. Yum! Out to play now with plenty to come.

Figli Luigi Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Serious Langhe playing at Barolo level. Poured blind I'd more than likely say it was at Barolo level. Excellent acid wonderful core of fruit, flowing with excellent shape. A vibrancy and energy with fruit weight toward La Morra sources. Outstanding aroma and flavour profile. Layered and complex earthy and truffled. Open and approachable. A serious wine & a wonderful expression of Nebbiolo. The textural elements in the Oddero wines just keep getting better and better year after year.

Bold primary tones of plump cherry and blackberry are delivered to the bouquet of the 2021 Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna Santo Stefano di Perno. This wine is all about freshness, fruitiness and richness. Mauro Mascarello says the 2022 vintage had less volume overall. Production is always lowered in the hottest drought years because the grapes tend to slow down. But 2021 was a quality year for Dolcetto, he says, both in terms of quality and quantity.Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate 92 PointsH

Excellent élévage yet so very tight. Graphite mineral thing. Long even tannins, fine vibrant red fruit fresh red cherry. Pure grape first Syrah with much more going on. Lovely shape.Longer finer feel compared with Villard’s Saint-Joseph that uses much more whole bunch. It’s a matter of preference and difference not necessarily quality between the two.More to come from both with a few years in bottle. Excellent Syrah!

Super fine of deceptive weight, complexity & transparency. It achieves one of the greatest feats in white wine: elegance with real depth and length, particularly mid-palate weight. with loads of fun. Excellent acid profile and flow. The balance here is impressive. Just delicious, very good, thirst-quenching.Great purity and precision, layered and full of personality.Another terrific wine from this address, the 2020 Viré-Clessé Quintaine exhibits aromas of citrus zest, white flo

Terre de l’Elu Vin de France ‘Bastingage’ 2021

Chenin Blanc | Loire Valley, Anjou

Flow and shape here is excellent. A blend of 4 terroirs. Vinified separately. Seamless, rich textural wine with an acid cut and a little bitterness keeping it fresh.Pear and fresh quince cooked to blush as on a cake. A lovely core of fruit. Delicacy playing with the richness.  A little white flower hint of that marzipan and gentle silvery sweep of bitterness.Fermented in 500L oak with a discrete positive influence from 10% new wood.
