Wow! Initially a little spritz that swirled of quickly, the protective nature of dissolved CO2 goes some way to explaining why this wine looks younger than the “2020 Retour a Terre”.  Bottling with a little CO2 is a sign that they see this as a wine for the longer haul. It is obsolete to repeat many of Kelley’s remarks. It’s clear that the fruit is exceptional, the mid-palate weight, always a sign of quality Chardonnay, is impressive, along with the flow, shape and texture. Incred

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2018

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is fabulous. In some recent vintages, the Cappellano Barbera has been a pretty big wine, but in 2018 it is all finesse. The purity of the fruit is striking, but the aromatics and mid-weight structure - both of which lean towards Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo - are just captivating. Kirsch, sweet spice, mint, ripe raspberry and a burst of bright acids linger. I would be thrilled to own this. Harvest was on October 3, very late for Barbera. Drink 2022-2032Antonio Gall

Zárate Albariño ‘El Palomar’ 2021

Albariño | Val do Salnés, Galicia

170 year old pre-phylloxera vines.Skin contact and oxidative handling are beautifully balanced. Savoury and earthy with that Albariño fresh green herb hit. Fascinating to watch it freshen in the glass, bruised apple falls away & the fruit shines. A fine phenolic grip & spice from the skin contact add intrigue.Opens beautifully on both nose and palate over several hours, intensity builds & it flows gracefully. Keeps getting fresher, and fresher. A clear sign of quality f

Rafael Palacios ‘As Sortes’ Godello 2022

White Wine | Valdeorras, Galicia

Huge jump in depth and length over the 'Loura'. A layer of oxidative development adding complexity to the fruit weight. A more refreshing mouthfeel along combines with a step up in salinity. The nutty, lees complex a faintly toasty line. The core of citrus rind / oil fruit easily holding its own. Excellent balance and expression. A complete harmonious wine without artefact. Drinks beautifully with a day open. A little baking spice. Loads of nuance. Seriously sharp wine. The 2022 As Sortes

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “Elegant and pure aromas of smoked apple, mineral reduction and citrus zest give way to rich, caressing and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that deliver huge length on the borderline painfully intense finish that is similarly akin to having a small pebble in the mouth. This chalky and saline-inflected effort is impressively powerful and built to reward mid to even longer-term cellaring. Excellent.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 92 ♥ Outstandin

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “An exuberantly floral-suffused nose reveals additional nuances of matchstick character, lemon confit and a broad range of white-fleshed fruit scents. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the larger-bodied flavors that are a combination of power and finesse on the beautifully focused and lingering finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is also terrific and very much recommended.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 93 ♥ Outstan

Yet another superb 2021 Barbaresco. Clarity, purity & persistence. Sitting at 14%, the vitality of the 2021 Rombone is clear. A thread of acid sits in synergy with fine, long, grape-first chalky tannins. On the redder side of the fruit spectrum, showing the touch of skilled hands, particularly during time on skins as the mouthfeel caresses. It has much going on with a perfume balanced by an earthiness wrapping the core of fruit. A triumph!Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Oct 2024

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2019

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is a delicate, perfumed Barbera with a Nebbiolo-like feeling of mid-weight structure. Succulent dark cherry fruit, tobacco, spice, leather, menthol and blood orange are pushed forward. A kick of bright acids on the finish keeps things vibrant. This unique, idiosyncratic Barbera is compelling. I have no doubt Cappellano fans with love it. Drink 2024-2034Antonio Galloni - NR as per request from Cappellano

“Aromas of sweet berry fruit, warm spices, forest floor and raw cocoa preface the 2019 Beaune Les Epenottes, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and structured wine that's quite tightly wound, with fine concentration, lively acids and ripe tannins that assert themselves on the finish. This will require a bit of patience, but its track record for aging with grace is excellent.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 90+ Points JM 90-92

Domaine des Roches Neuves Samur Blanc 'Clos de l'Échelier' 2021
Bone Dry!
Stunning Chenin Blanc to Rival the Drinking Pleasure of 1er Cru White Burg & the Worlds Best Dry Rizza! So fine. Superbly textured. Stunning acid of epic length, piercing long and lovely. Fruit length and depth continue to build epically long after swallowing. Incredibly complex & layered. Such depth. Citrus, lemon, a little white grapefruit, pear & quince, garrigue woody herb. When the acid settles and generosity builds with time in bottle this will be an absolute ripper. Wait 3-5 years.

The reds of Chassagne a little secret that's slowly making its way out of the bag. I had one of Alex's red the 1978 monopole Morgeot 'La Cardeuse' in September 2020. In a word stunning. Ask Alex and he'll tell you the soil profile is very similar to Chambolle in that neck of the woods.A ripe, fresh and relatively deeply pitched nose reveals notes of pepper and earth inflected dark berries and plum. The nicely rich and vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess a supple and round mid-palate while

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Gabutti’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

A wonderful expression of Serralunga, all of the tea, slate, graphite, exceptional quality tannins, with a presence and sophistication. The firm mouthfeel of seriously good Serralunga tannins. Again such a complete wine. The nose draws you in. Begging you to drink. A darkness and energy that is palpable.Impressive gear. Precise, and pure, wearing the vineyard and commune on its sleeve. Superb fruit of depth and length. Insane Texture! Great drinking here with much much more to come
