Syrah or Shiraz? Name doesn’t matter when it’s this good! The baby brother to the region of Hermitage, the Syrah wines from Crozes are great value. The region is bigger, flatter and more diverse in terrain. Knowing your growers is perhaps more important. Vincent Paris, although a relatively new Domain, has vineyards across the Northern Rhône, passed down from his family, some of which are over 100 years old. His Crozes-Hermitage is a great introduction to his wines with an impressive density and layering of flavour that is matched by the complexity and supple texture. Somehow, amongst all of this the wine has a freshness and purity about it. It’s a bold wine that definitely needs a good decanting if drunk young and will last decades. Look out for his Cornas!
