Vosne-Romanée

“Bourgogne has produced nothing better than this little corner where all her charms come together”. So wrote Gaston Roupnel Burgundian author, celebrated historian of the French countryside. This “central pearl in Bourgogne’s necklace” harbours fabled Grands Crus: Romanée-Conti, Romanée Saint Vivant, La Romanée, La Tâche, La Grande Rue, Richebourg, and, in the neighbouring commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, Échezeaux and
Grands Échezeaux. Close to this paradise, the appellation Village Vosne-Romanée and its Premiers Crus express the Pinot Noir grape at its heavenly best.

“The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, matured in 40% new oak, is intense on the nose, opulent yet controlled with mainly red berry fruit, allspice and rose petal scents, just a hint of black olive emerging with time. Very well-defined. The medium-bodied palate comes armed with a voluptuous entry, almost viscous in texture, intense yet delineated with a gradual build to its sweet and detailed finish. This will require four to five years to open for business, but it is certainl

The 2020 Echézeaux En Orveaux Grand Cru bursts with aromas of sweet red berries, rose petals, peonies, orange rind, plums and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, precise finish, this, too, is very promising.William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92-94 BH 91-94

This was one of the few wines in the line-up to display any appreciable reduction and in this case it's enough to mask the underlying fruit. The suave, round and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing texture yet there is good underlying power to the acceptably long and complex finale. This seemed slightly out of sorts though I suspect that it will better harmonize once in bottle.Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-93 Points

"Matured in 300-liter barrels made from oak that Mongeard selects and seasons himself, the 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru La Grande Complication is a special cuvée that derives from vines planted in 1945 with the family's massal selections, located in the lieu-dit of Les Treux. Unwinding in the glass with notes of orange rind, rose petals, exotic spices, cherries and berries, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a concentrated, tightly wound core that shows considerable promise for long-term cel

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, once again the nose is overtly floral in character with its exuberantly spicy nose of various dark berries, soy, exotic tea and sandalwood. The sleek, intense and delineated flavors are at once refined yet powerful with a taut muscularity becoming more apparent on the dusty, youthfully austere and stony finish that is compact and very serious. Patience. (from a .97 ha holding; 80% whole clusters). Drink: 2034+ ♥ Don’t miss! OutstandingAllen

Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Grand Cru Echezeaux 2022

Pinot Noir | Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy

This is the first wine to display any meaningful level of reduction and here it’s enough to push the fruit to the background. By contrast there is a lovely sense of verve and freshness on the palate of the sleek but intense and generously proportioned medium weight plus flavors that coat the mouth on the sneaky long finish. While this could use better depth, the underlying material is such that more is all but guaranteed to develop. (from a .11 ha parcel in Poullailères). 2034+Allen Mead

"This is also quite firmly reduced and revealing nothing at present. On the palate though the slightly bigger flavors possess only a bit more volume but notably more power and particularly so on the even longer though not necessarily more complex finale. This is very classy juice with that sense of poise that all great wines seem to have. Very promising. Drink: 2036+ Don't miss! Outstanding ♥"Allen Meadows, Burghound

Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! I've had the pleasure of drinking La Grande Rue a couple of times. It's the benchmark wine of the estate that sits across a tiny laneway from LaTâche. La Grande Rue is sensual, feminine, with an incredible perfume, and silky texture. A special wine indeed.Vosne-Romanée tensd to be a bit of mixed bag of the haves and have nots. Lamarche is a have!Nicole, François' daughter has been in charge of t
The expressive nose is aromatically similar to the regular cuvée if perhaps even a bit more floral. The sleek, powerful and concentrated larger-scaled flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel while exhibiting outstanding persistence on the overtly austere, compact and altogether serious finish. Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! A more expressive nose freely offers up exceptionally pretty aromas that include the exuberantly spicy essence of various red berries, sandalwood and an interesting hint of orange pekoe tea. The richer but not as tightly wound medium weight flavors possess a borderline creamy mid-palate while the hugely long finish is youthfully austere but impeccably well-balanced. In a word, excellent.Burghound 93-95

Here too the nose is overtly floral in character though relative to the Les St. Georges the dark berry fruit aromas are much more exotic and spicier. The sleekly muscular, intense and broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding mid-palate density and power before culminating in a robust, firmly structured and wonderfully complex finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is a rich and classically styled Richebourg that is very definitely built-to-age as it should be. Drink: 2036+
