Marcarini Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

'Tasted alongside the La Serra, which is always interesting. If you want to experience terroir, well, I reckon traditionally made Barolo and Barbaresco provide much better examples than Burgundy does, with their Pinot Noir toolkit of winemaking techniques obfuscating vineyards so often! Anyway, air-freight sample here, so likely arriving in the not too distant future, given the travails of international shipping at present, container shortages, and the like. Paolo Scavino Barolo MAGNUM 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Italy

The 2021 Barolo is a terrific entry-level offering from Scavino. Crushed flowers, spice and dried herbs give this mid-weight, juicy Barolo striking aromatic presence. Soft and silky on the palate, with racy, forward fruit, the 2021 is a delight. Drink it over the next handful of years. Drink 2025-2033Antonio Galloni, Vinous 90 PointsTo be released in January 2025, the Paolo Scavino 2021 Barolo is bright and vivid, showing the focus and character of the vintage. Oddero Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Give it the requisite air time & it reveals all! Given the Oddero style and the commune of La Morra this has all the ingredients need to be an impressive wine, and it is just that. Before I got my head fully around the tannin complex in the Poderi Oddero wines I cracked one of these and thought, shit, that's a bit OTT, just on the tannin side. A third of the bottle coravined out and 1 month later I chucked the rest in a decanter. The transformation blew my mind. All had resolved and harmonised t

On most recent devouring, Oct 2022, the 2016 Barolo is starting to reveal itself.  On release it was clearly something special, now a couple of years on it is a seamless wonder, flow and harmony. A vote for blending across communes, the oppulence of La Morra, the layers, line and length of Castiglione Falletto and the dark structure of Serralunga all making for a complete wine. Plenty more to come!A blend of fruit from 30% La Morra’s Rive, 30% Castiglione Falletto’s Scarrone, &

Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Give it the requisite air time & it reveals all! The 2019 Barolo Brunate emerges from a tiny half-hectare plot at the highest elevation in the vineyard. It presents a beguiling mix of all the balsamic notes typical of Brunate, along with an extra bit of mid-palate texture that comes from aging in a slightly smaller cask vis-a-vis the other Barolos. Firm tannins need time to soften. Drink 2026-2044Antonio Galloni, Vinous 95 PointsPietro highlighted the soil in their Brunate vineyard,

Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2017

Nebbiolo | La Morra, Italy

The 2017 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol and dried herbs all build in a potent Barolo that is enshrouded by tannins. The 2017 is going to need quite a bit of time in the cellar. Today, it is very much a brooding powerhouse. Dark wild cherry, licorice, tar, menthol and spice take shape in the glass, but the 2017 is clearly an infant, and an unruly one at that. Drink 2025 - 2042 Galloni

The 2021 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is classy and polished to the core. This wine has come such a long way since its debut. Enrico Scavino really believed in this site when he purchased it a little more than 20 years ago. The 2021 is a fine testament to his vision. Lavender, sage, menthol and licorice lead into a core of dark-toned fruit in a Barolo that is deep yet also light on its feet. This is impeccably done, not to mention very tasty. Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2018

Nebbiolo | La Morra, Italy

The 2018 Barolo Brunate is a deep, layered wine that is going to need at least a few years to come together. Today, the Brunate is quite primary and backward, but all the ingredients are there. Sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers and spice build with a bit of coaxing. Drink 2028 - 2048 Galloni

Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Cracking Brunate! A very complete wine. Tannins are so refined, even through the front and middle palate. Round chocolateyt mid-palate that tapers a little. Incredibly elegant,  again a poised acid-tannin complex with ripe, layered, silky tannin. Actually builds post swallow. Perfectly ripe and balanced. Incredible length. The core of fruit is insane. Oppulent & exceptional.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025Brunate is also one of my favorite wines from Vietti (and, boy, is it har

Marcarini Barolo ‘La Serra’ 2021 6-Pack

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

A very strong La Serra from Marcarini. Oppulent, generous, shows off the Commune of La Morra in full flight! Savoury, with a drip of salty blood over red fruit and blood orange. Flowing, plush, round & fine. Delicious. The best La Serra in years. Beautiful development. Ripe, fine tannins. A long, long finish. Incredibly moreish even at this youthful point in its life! Will make for a lovely comparison with Sordo’s 2021 La Serra.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The 2021 Barolo
