Praeter Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

La Morra Fruit from the Vineyards of Luigi Oddero! Declassified Barolo! Not for quality, but, for the shorter ageing timeframe. BOOM! We're seeing more and more whole bunch wine coming out of Barolo. Matt whole bunch skills with Pinot made for a confident hand playing with fruit from La Morra. End results are a beautiful wine, it's really quite delicate for a La Morra. The whole bunch has elicited a fine perfume over vibrant fruit, little hints of spice. The tannins have a little edge of grip, i

Figli Luigi Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Serious Langhe playing at Barolo level. Poured blind I'd more than likely say it was at Barolo level. Excellent acid wonderful core of fruit, flowing with excellent shape. A vibrancy and energy with fruit weight toward La Morra sources. Outstanding aroma and flavour profile. Layered and complex earthy and truffled. Open and approachable. A serious wine & a wonderful expression of Nebbiolo. The textural elements in the Oddero wines just keep getting better and better year after year.

Cascina Fontana Barolo 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Undoubtedly the best Fontana Barolo Classico I’ve had! Brooding yet open - perhaps explained by the mix of Castiglione Falletto (brooding) and La Morra (open) fruit.Undoubtedly the best Fontana Barolo Classico I’ve had. A little sappy, resinous (in a nice way)  layer of tannin combines with ripe even line of nutty tannin, fruit comes, building through the mid palate and lingers. This just needs time. It has that Castiglione Falleto youthful brooding nature to it. Give it a couple of yea

Marcarini Barolo ‘La Serra’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

'La Morra is most often a horror zone for me when it comes to Barolo, fine light wines, beefed up with way too much oak. Marcarini is one of the beautiful exceptions to that. So fine, and finely etched. Red fruits, roses, mint, almond, subtle five spice perfume. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and precise, fine brick dust and peppery tannin, quiet succulence of strawberry and other red fruits, spice and liquorice root, long cool finish. So lovely. Energy and charm. Love this wine. And there’s more

Marcarini Barolo ‘La Serra’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

A very strong La Serra from Marcarini. Oppulent, generous, shows off the Commune of La Morra in full flight! Savoury, with a drip of salty blood over red fruit and blood orange. Flowing, plush, round & fine. Delicious. The best La Serra in years. Beautiful development. Ripe, fine tannins. A long, long finish. Incredibly moreish even at this youthful point in its life! Will make for a lovely comparison with Sordo’s 2021 La Serra.Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Sept 2025The 2021 Barolo

On most recent devouring, Oct 2022, the 2016 Barolo is starting to reveal itself.  On release it was clearly something special, now a couple of years on it is a seamless wonder, flow and harmony. A vote for blending across communes, the oppulence of La Morra, the layers, line and length of Castiglione Falletto and the dark structure of Serralunga all making for a complete wine. Plenty more to come!A blend of fruit from 30% La Morra’s Rive, 30% Castiglione Falletto’s Scarrone, &

Marcarini Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

'Tasted alongside the La Serra, which is always interesting. If you want to experience terroir, well, I reckon traditionally made Barolo and Barbaresco provide much better examples than Burgundy does, with their Pinot Noir toolkit of winemaking techniques obfuscating vineyards so often! Anyway, air-freight sample here, so likely arriving in the not too distant future, given the travails of international shipping at present, container shortages, and the like. I’ve been dipping into my 2010s of

Oddero Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Give it the requisite air time & it reveals all! Given the Oddero style and the commune of La Morra this has all the ingredients need to be an impressive wine, and it is just that. Before I got my head fully around the tannin complex in the Poderi Oddero wines I cracked one of these and thought, shit, that's a bit OTT, just on the tannin side. A third of the bottle coravined out and 1 month later I chucked the rest in a decanter. The transformation blew my mind. All had resolved and harmonised t
