Beautiful, savoury, with well-handled oxidative development, fresh yet energetic. Spiced, saline, a delicate sherry line, with a little cereal note. Ripe citrus oil on a flowing gentle mouthfeel. Love the dry crisp cleansing feel, super saline. Lovely. A great way to see a varietal Xarel.lo as a still wine and add the context to drinking top end fizz made with the variety. The acidity in this example if beautifully balanced, it shows just why it is such a good match for sparkling production.

Dolcetto | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Unlike the Barbera d’Alba ‘Falletto’, the Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Falletto’ does not come from the true Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba vineyard but from the North-facing vineyards surrounding it. These sites came as part of the acquisition of Falletto in the 1980’s and were already planted to Dolcetto. For all the many great things that can be told about Giacosa’s red wines, it is the Arneis that maybe typifies the great qualities of Bruno Giacosa the man. In the early 1970’s, this was an indigenous variety almost entirely lost to the region’s obsession with red wines (at the time mainly Dolcetto) that was ‘rediscovered’ by Alfredo Currado of Vietti and Giacosa very shortly after. The two are almost solely responsible for Arneis’ current importance in the region, especially in Roer

2011 was a warmer and riper year, but there's not a huge difference between the 2011 Viña Bosconia Reserva and the 2010; this is perhaps mellower, with more integrated acidity. One of Italy’s great value red wines, the Barbera d’Alba ‘Casa Vinicola’ is an expression of Barbera fruit sourced from around the Barolo and Barbaresco sub-regions. This is one of the longest standing labels in Giacosa’s stable having first been produced in 1969, just after the first Barolos and Barbarescos of the mid-60’s. These days it is a refreshing red that shows the ripe red berries of great Barberas from Alba, alongside notably sinewy tannins and a good mineral core.

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

Dusty and floral, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a perfumed blend of dried roses, cherries, mint and lavender candies. It’s elegant and seamlessly silky on the palate, enveloping the senses with ripe red berry fruits contrasted by a bitter clove tinge. A core of brisk acidity maintains a lovely balance as a web of fine tannins saturates the palate, and a pleasantly chewy sensation remains. The 2019 is classic to the core. Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 2013

Pinot Noir | Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne

“Surpassing even the 2012 and 2008, Philipponnat's 2013 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses looks to be the finest vintage of this cuvée in several decades, at least on first acquaintance. Deriving from only the six core parcels out of the 13 that make up the Clos des Goisses, it's a striking wine, evoking aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, clear honey, bee pollen, stone fruit and iodine. Full-bodied, layered and vinous, its textural attack segues into a deep, concentrated and tight

Bruno Giacosa Barolo 2020

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Similarly to the Barbaresco ‘Classico’ the equivalent Barolo ‘Classico’ is produced mainly in the vintages where no Barolo ‘Falletto’ or ‘Falletto Vigna Le Rocche’ is made. All of Giacosa’s Barolo wines are single vineyard offerings, and the same is true for the Classico where all of the fruit in the years it is produced comes from Falletto in Serralunga d’Alba. The most recent vintage of Barolo ‘Classico’ is 2018. In the years where a Barolo ‘Classico’ a Barolo ‘F

Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto 2020

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

In the great years when a Barolo ‘Falletto Vigna Le Rocche’ are produced, the fruit for Barolo ‘Falletto’ comes from all but the very top parts of the Falletto vineyard. In most vintages, this wine is the most ready of the Barolos and shows Giacosa’s sweetly fruited Nebbiolo in the shortest window after opening. Being from the Southern part of Serralunga d’Alba and almost bordering Monforte, the wines from this site are rich in ferrous intensity, with sweet blackberries, blueberri

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

There is something here that takes Sangiovese to a special place, the perfume, the lovely linear shape of fruit, that deceptive depth and length that builds! Dusty roses, worn leather, dried strawberries and arid earth form a classic bouquet as the dynamic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is feminine yet deep and textural, with ripe plums and black cherries motivated by brisk acidity. Violet inner florals and licorice hints form toward the close. The 2019 leaves a salty mi

Philipponnat Clos des Goisses L.V. 1997

Pinot Noir | Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne

The latest release from Philipponnat's L.V. program, their late-disgorged ex-maison releases This year also sees the 1997 release of Philipponnat’s L.V. or Long Vieillissement i.e., ‘long aging’ project. It is widely accepted that the Clos des Goisses is one of the finest wines in Champagne for aging and needs at least 10-15 years to unveil its true majesty. “Gorgeous nutty nose, dark golden in colour but completely belying the freshness and racy energy within the glass.
