Sforzato

Refers to a passito style wine made in a similar way to Amarone, using Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) in the Valtellina region in Lomabardy.

In music Sforzato means strained. In wine it translates to forced. In this case it refers to a passito style wine made in a similar way to Amarone, using Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) in the Valtellina region in Lomabardy.

The grapes are picked, laid out on dry racks and left to slowly degydrate, losing as much as 40% of their weight, concentrating the sugars, acids, and, beyond in the grapes. When ready the winemaking process continues, as, the grapes are fermented and turned into a rich full bodied wine.

Sucked one of these back beginning of April 2022. Cracked, decanted for around 3 hours, dranks over a couple. It just kept getting better and better in the glass, incredible harmony, those faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto, fine long tannins, perfectly balanced with flavours that lingered long after the last drop was gone. Ben does such a great job in the Côtes-de-Beaune. There's a certain harmony that comes across in the reds he makes here. It makes sense given his familiarity with the region following his time at Comte-Armand. He talks of his efforts to shift the styles of the Pommards from rustic and super tannic to more perfumed and supple. He's succeeded in achieving that with the Pommards not only at Comte-Armand, but, at his own Domaine too! The 1er Cru Rugiens-Hauts is an impeccable site
