What he achieves by a combo of half vinified in stainless steel and half the ferments in barrel, is the ideal melding of the racy with the complex and textured. A pretty flash Weissburgunder AKA Pinot Bianco! Excellent drinking. A layer of that shroomy, wet wool earthy funk I often see, and enjoy in high acid whites. White flowers perfume. Ripe white grapefruit. Counterpointed with a little stonefruit, fresh and zippy. Chalky acid with a dusting of phenolics adds cleansing grip. Superb long

Delicious spiced, pear, perfumed with flowers, almost flinty, lovely phenolics, textural and fine, long and even, gentle, flowing, resolved. Savoury. Subtle layered intrigue. Fine acid profile. Bloody fun wine. The last time I had a Chasselas it was from an old planting in Victoria the origin of which I can’t remember. I ended up buying cases of it as a cleanskin for personal consumption. Its memory prompted me to try this wine from the “vineyard in the sky”. From the incredibl

Domaine de Beudon Petite Arvine AOC Valais 2020

White Blend | Valais, Switzeland

Lovely perfume and lift, textural almost Viognier & Traminer-seque. Big slippery oily phenolic texture. Exceptional perfume spice, marzipan, quince and fejoa, jasmine white flowers, great intensity. Very good. Delicacy with intensity and intrigue! A variety rarely seen outside Valais, Switzerland. Its standing demonstrated by attempts from Angelo Gaja and Michel Chapoutier to work with this somewhat belligerent grape to grow. From Valais in Switzerland and one of the world’s

Antoniolo Erbaluce d’Caluso DOC 2022

Erbaluce | Italy, Alto Piemonte

If you've never tried Erbaluce before this is a bloody good place to start! Like Timorasso & Nascetta this is a varietal to watch! Tasting the 2020 it was clear that like Cogno's Nascetta, Antoniolo's Erbaluce benefits from a hear in bottle to settle. Notes on the 2020 2nd Taste Oct 2022 - Very Good, super racy zippy acid coming together nicely resolved filled out. Looks good fun crisp. Perfect summer drinking. Elevage is there. The first iteration of this wine I drank was the 2018, a seriously impressive wine. It wasn't your grandmother's Sherry and nor is the 2021. Made in the style of bygone regional traditions, the De La Riva Vino de Pasto is a non-fortified aromatic table wine made with Palomino from the El Notario plot in pago Macharnudo. It's personality is influenced by a period of time in lightly ullaged barrel under flor Luis Guitiérrez comments that from 2019 Willy and Ramiro have tried to reduce the e

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes reflects its origins, for it is one of the more generous, open-knit wines in the range, even in this cooler vintage. Bursting with scents of honeyed orchard fruit, freshly baked bread and beeswax, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit and an expansive finish. If anyone wants to open a 2021 Germain young, pick this cuvée. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 90-92 Points JM 92-94

Domaine Henri Germain Cîte d’Or Blanc 2021

Chardonnay | Meursault, Burgundy

Offering up aromas of pear, lime blossom and freshly baked bread, Germain's 2021 Bourgogne CĂŽte d'Or is medium-bodied, with a racy spine of acidity and a saline finish. It's a lean, somewhat old-fashioned white that will likely pick up a bit more texture in bottle. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 87-89 Points JM 87-89

A Vino de Pasto from the laminated Albarizas Barajuelas of Pago Macharnudo. The 2022 La Escribano Vino di Pasto 1 year in old fino casks, a tiny bit of ullage and a thin layer of flor. It's exhilarating, energetic drinking ~ lightning! Fascinating to see the balance of flavours showing a little more citrus fruit popping through, still with the usual savoury cereal characters. Saline with textural pleasure a plenty. Green leafy herb at the edge. A playful divine wine.  đŸ”„Hot Tip: Drink

“Surpassing even the 2012 and 2008, Philipponnat's 2013 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses looks to be the finest vintage of this cuvĂ©e in several decades, at least on first acquaintance. Deriving from only the six core parcels out of the 13 that make up the Clos des Goisses, it's a striking wine, evoking aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, clear honey, bee pollen, stone fruit and iodine. Huet Vouvray Demi Sec ‘Le Mont’ 2022

Chenin Blanc | Vouvray, D'Anjou-Saumur

"The 2022 Le Mont Demi-Sec is less fruity and charming than, say, Clos du Bourg; its tension and line come from its flinty terroir. Despite its 21g/L residual sugar, it retains a sense of tautness without being totally linear. Radish and pear notes linger on the long finish. This is grown-up demi-sec."
