Ansitz Waldgries Südtiroler Weissburgunder Riserva ‘ITOS’ 2020

Weissburgunder | Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

What he achieves by a combo of half vinified in stainless steel and half the ferments in barrel, is the ideal melding of the racy with the complex and textured. A pretty flash Weissburgunder AKA Pinot Bianco! Excellent drinking. A layer of that shroomy, wet wool earthy funk I often see, and enjoy in high acid whites. White flowers perfume. Ripe white grapefruit. Counterpointed with a little stonefruit, fresh and zippy. Chalky acid with a dusting of phenolics adds cleansing grip. Superb long

Delicious spiced, pear, perfumed with flowers, almost flinty, lovely phenolics, textural and fine, long and even, gentle, flowing, resolved. Savoury. Subtle layered intrigue. Fine acid profile. Bloody fun wine. The last time I had a Chasselas it was from an old planting in Victoria the origin of which I can’t remember. I ended up buying cases of it as a cleanskin for personal consumption. Its memory prompted me to try this wine from the “vineyard in the sky”. From the incredibl

Domaine de Beudon Petite Arvine AOC Valais 2020

White Blend | Valais, Switzeland

Lovely perfume and lift, textural almost Viognier & Traminer-seque. Big slippery oily phenolic texture. Exceptional perfume spice, marzipan, quince and fejoa, jasmine white flowers, great intensity. Very good. Delicacy with intensity and intrigue! A variety rarely seen outside Valais, Switzerland. Its standing demonstrated by attempts from Angelo Gaja and Michel Chapoutier to work with this somewhat belligerent grape to grow. From Valais in Switzerland and one of the world’s

The first iteration of this wine I drank was the 2018, a seriously impressive wine. It wasn't your grandmother's Sherry and nor is the 2021. Made in the style of bygone regional traditions, the De La Riva Vino de Pasto is a non-fortified aromatic table wine made with Palomino from the El Notario plot in pago Macharnudo. It's personality is influenced by a period of time in lightly ullaged barrel under flor Luis Guitiérrez comments that from 2019 Willy and Ramiro have tried to reduce the e

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes reflects its origins, for it is one of the more generous, open-knit wines in the range, even in this cooler vintage. Bursting with scents of honeyed orchard fruit, freshly baked bread and beeswax, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit and an expansive finish. If anyone wants to open a 2021 Germain young, pick this cuvée. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 90-92 Points JM 92-94

The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots reveals aromas of pear, green apple, spring blossoms, lemon oil and bread dough, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and tensile palate. Domaine Henri Germain Côte d’Or Blanc 2021

Chardonnay | Meursault, Burgundy

Offering up aromas of pear, lime blossom and freshly baked bread, Germain's 2021 Bourgogne Côte d'Or is medium-bodied, with a racy spine of acidity and a saline finish. It's a lean, somewhat old-fashioned white that will likely pick up a bit more texture in bottle. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 87-89 Points JM 87-89

A Vino de Pasto from the laminated Albarizas Barajuelas of Pago Macharnudo. The 2022 La Escribano Vino di Pasto 1 year in old fino casks, a tiny bit of ullage and a thin layer of flor. It's exhilarating, energetic drinking ~ lightning! Fascinating to see the balance of flavours showing a little more citrus fruit popping through, still with the usual savoury cereal characters. Saline with textural pleasure a plenty. Green leafy herb at the edge. A playful divine wine.  🔥Hot Tip: Drink

Philipponnat Clos des Goisses L.V. 1997

The latest release from Philipponnat's L.V. program, their late-disgorged ex-maison releases This year also sees the 1997 release of Philipponnat’s L.V. or Long Vieillissement i.e., ‘long aging’ project. It is widely accepted that the Clos des Goisses is one of the finest wines in Champagne for aging and needs at least 10-15 years to unveil its true majesty. “Gorgeous nutty nose, dark golden in colour but completely belying the freshness and racy energy within the glass. Philipponnat Clos des Goisses MAGNUM 2013

Pinot Noir | Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne

“Surpassing even the 2012 and 2008, Philipponnat's 2013 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses looks to be the finest vintage of this cuvée in several decades, at least on first acquaintance. Deriving from only the six core parcels out of the 13 that make up the Clos des Goisses, it's a striking wine, evoking aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, clear honey, bee pollen, stone fruit and iodine. Full-bodied, layered and vinous, its textural attack segues into a deep, concentrated and tight

“A relatively young estate, Lavantureux is definitely a domaine to watch. Arnaud and David are now running things, with a recent 0.95ha acquisition in Vau de Vey. Farmed by hand, this is a delightful Premier Cru which emphasises the character of this steep, stony climat. Lovely density on the palate with an intriguing lime character, balanced by mineral, flinty notes and a touch of creamy oak adding more complexity. Subtle and nuanced.” Decanter

Lovely wine, beautifully made harmonious, long fine layered, of great complexity, softer acid profile, yet plenty of acid, a textural feat! Excellent development. Citrus and pith, with a good phenolic textural play. Nicely balanced, on a lower perceived acid bent for the region. Chalky feel. Plenty of fun. Subtle leesy funk, with great clarity. Fauchaume has a number of Lieux Dits that you'll see on the label: Vaulorent, Fontenay, Vaupulan amongst them.

White Cap - Dry "The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. Jean-Paul et Benôit Droin Chablis 2021

Serious Chenin here. A big jump from the Midi. Lambert appears to be working with a little more phenolic extract adding a playful grip and cleansing astringency. Very complete and flowing. David’s extra time in old oak and a 2nd winter in tank give it harmony and refinement, flowing with a real step up in sophistication. Super zippy, mineral acid with the core of fruit to support it. Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

AP 17.20 The 2019er Hofberg Auslese, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made with clean fruit harvested at 98° Oechsle from the main hill of the vineyard, and was fermented down to fully sweet levels of residual sugar.
