Exploring the red wine world will take you from lighter more elegant wines to brash, bold wines.

There are infinite combinations of different colours, aromas, flavours, and, textures making for a lifelong pleasure fest for your senses.

A dozen varieties make up the majority of the red wines produced. Think Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and, Merlot.

Are travels to Italy, Spain, and, France have seen more Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Nerello Mascelese, Grenache, Carignan, and, Tempranillo red wines being poured into our glasses.

The wine world is producing better wines than ever before. In regions where laws permit broad experimentation with growing and making red wines is resulting in rapid evolution and refinement of styles.

In countries like Australia, cooler climate reds are really making a name for themselves.

Gobally, there’s been a welcome shift away for cumbersome, overripe, high alcohol, oaky wines, to red wines made with more restraint and freshness.

This Cru is the jewel in the crown of the Commune of Verduno in Barolo! The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero is a gorgeous wine that marries the classicism of this site with the bright, forward fruit that is such a signature of the Scavino style. Albino Rocca ‘Angelo’ Barbaresco 2019

In hommage to Angelo this goes back to his father’s days when blending was the norm. A truly beautiful blend. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is quite possibly the most elegant, refined version of this wine I have ever tasted. It does not offer the immediacy or impact of either the 2015 or 2016, but, instead, impresses with its elegance, persistence and total class. The 2nd time we’ve managed to squeeze out an allocation of ‘San Francesco’ Saint Francesco. We are very happy! The 2018 Gattinara Riserva San Francesco is a wine of notable savory aromatic intensity. Fruit seems to be more in the background here, yet all the elements are so nicely balanced. There is a bit of new oak imprint at this stage, but time in the glass helps this open considerably.
