Our first allocation of Ponsot’s Chapelle-Chambertin outside of his famous ‘mixed box’. The stats are similar to the Griotte Grand Cru; a small parcel (60ha in this instance) of vines planted in 1990. This wine, along with Corzano e Paterno’s top of the line 100% Sangiovese ‘I Tre Borri’ were two of the first Chianti’s that that piqued my interest and demonstrated the potential of this beautiful variety.
Fresh zippy acid, red cherry, excellent tannins with a little playful grip and spice. Delicious. Grape first. Earthy profile with dark fruit of energy and vibrancy a little perfume floats over the top ~ violets me thinks. Layered delicious and vibrant an excellent comparison to
Brooding with Sour Cherry and Dark Fruit. Kinda the child to Block 1 and Block 2 It's got some edgy tannin and extraction on one hand from the Pommard clone of Pinot. On the other it's got concentration and oppulence from the MV6 clone. Really want to see this wine in another 12-24 months.
