“The 2021 Cantenac Brown is another fine effort from a Margaux estate that’s been on something of a roll of late. Unwinding in the glass with notions of cassis, wild berries, loamy soil and cigar box, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, with good concentration, lively acids and a nicely defined finish. José Sanfins and his team opted to wait to pick the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon between the fourth and 12th of October, and that appears to have paid off. The blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, and just over half the estate’s production went into the grand vin.”

In the early 19th century, John-Lewis Brown bought the estate and decided to build a Chateau characterized by a Tudors style which reminded him his Scottish roots.
This building, one of the most unusual in the Médoc, is surrounded by a remarkable English-style grounds. John-Lewis Brown, a famous naturalist painter and lover of fine wine, organized sumptuous receptions at Château Cantenac Brown until 1843, when the estate was sold to a banker, Mr. Gromard. The quality of the wine was acknowledged in the 1855 classification, when Château Cantenac Brown was included among the third growths. Since 2019, the French Le Lous family runs the estate. Very involved, she drives a new impetus for the Château thanks to the close collaboration between Tristan Le Lous and José Sanfins (Director and Winemaker). They make the choice of an audacious and contemporary development in harmony with the history of the Château.
Cantenac Brown is in the Medoc on the Left Bank of Bordeaux in Margaux.
