Millerandage or Chicken and Hen refers to differences in the size of berries in a bunch, with some normal sized berried and others very small. The smaller berries tend to have high levels of acid increasing the acidity of the end wine. Millerandage is more prominent in some varieties and clones than others. It is often caused by poor weather condition, cold and rain, during flower reducing the effectiveness of flower fertilisation. The number of seed in a berry impacts the amount of natural growth hormones that or produced in the individual berries, the fewer the seeds the less growth hormone and the small the berry.

Feeling Thirsty?

Punching above its weight! Reviews yet to come. Kelley's note below is of the 2019. Along with the Clos de Myglands this represents one of the best value Burgundies on the market. Aromas of plums, spices, incense and soil tones, framed by a touch of toasty new oak, introduce the 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy, a medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's fleshy and concentrated, with fine, powdery tannins and lively acids. Pommad - From the Pommard Master!

Benjamin Leroux Pommard 2020

Pinot Noir | Pommard, Côte du Beaune

Given his experience in Pommard, home turf, if he'll have handle on any fruit this will be it! As with last year, this is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. We have very little. “The village Pommard is a suc

Castello dei Rampolla ‘d’Alceo’ 2018

Red Blend | Tuscany, Chianti Classico

This show how good Bordeaux blends can be in Italy and just how different they are from their French counterparts! Jumping from 4,000 vines a hectare to 8-10,000. Grown as bush vines. Immediate oppulence and generosity on the nose. The structural element from the tannin are very different from the tannins of Bordeaux, edgy again in a good way.  Such complexity with a layer of macerative characters and the perfume they can offer. Vibrant acidity and flowers from the Petit Verdot. d'Alceo is a wo

DRY
"Dry Wine of the Vintage!" Jean Fisch & David Rayer, Mosel Fine Wines AP: 18 21. The 2020er Marienburg Falkenlay GG, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, was fermented spontaneously in traditional oak casks from fruit harvested in a grey-slate infused part of the Marienburg vineyard. It proves still rather backward and only gradually reveals some nice flavors of smoke, pear, mirabelle, vineyard peach, cassis, herbs, and spices. The wine is beautifully juicy on the dry (but not bon
